Cool. Have fun. Mens B is already up to 34 racers which is bigger than any cross field I've ever been in.

Cool! Thanks for the post, I wouldn't have known otherwise. I will definitely at least go to spectate. I really want to race, but I am in TERRIBLE shape right now. :(

yeah- it was a blast. very fast, fun course with good flow. just one slightly tricky downhill, off-camber turn and a few muddy turns on the flats. a fair amount of elevation change, but well paced for recovery on the flats in between.
course: started on the road, up on some grass loops. one set of barriers, onto pavement again at the dam, up a bouncy singletrack shallow climb then turn onto a loose gravel road that you could make easier by riding on the side, down a dirt trail to the off-camber turn, fast downhill S-turn to the bottom, some muddy and gravel turns, wind to a short singletrack climb then a longer grassy rideable climb to the road, then bomb down on pavement back to the finish line....
great weather- fiarly warm, no rain. One of the Sponsors (City Bikes, my team's sponsor ) gave away a Disc-brake Cannondale (retail $1400+) to the racer with the best costume!
the promoters did an amazing job- great course, and fast reporting of results. once again Potomac Velo sets the standard for timing at a cross race. Many races (in these parts anyway) are hard pressed to get any finishing times up , while PVC races give you lap times!! very interesting.

Wow that is really nice the way they post those results. The mens B race was a blast. That was the biggest cross field I've been in. That was even big for a road race. 64 racers. So the start was a mad dash down the paved road to the gravel and the first turn then the field blew apart. After the first lap I was in a second group as the first one inched away. I never could get it back together but was happy with my results anyway. It was a very fun course indeed. If it had rained that back side hill would have been a very brutal run up. That off camber turn was a bit tricky. I choose to un clip and use my foot for leverage and as a guide. I really likes the paved sections too. People will use them for a quick recovery time. I try to use them to make passes. Actually towards the end I was getting pulled on the paved sections. I think the guy who won rode an IF single speed. I don't know how he got up that back side hill.
The Mens UCi finish for 3rd and 4th was very exciting. Hamblen and Marini were neck and neck for the last few laps and it came down to a final sprint on the pavement with Marini pulling Hamblen up to about 75 meters and Hamblen pulled around his left side to sprint to the finish within inches.

yeah, Eric Roman- not exactly what I'd call an "intermediate " rider.
but at these UCI events , you get some guys in B who don't want to pay for a UCI license. I think the promoters need to come up with a solution- A/non-UCI or something to prevent the talent trickle down at these events.

That is correct. It was Eric Roman on a 42x20. I asked him about it and he basically said it wasn't pretty, but he rode it alright. He used to be the fastest track bike messenger in DC, so there you go.

Here is my report:The C field had 48
riders, the biggest cross field I've even ridden in.
I got a good start and was in the top ten after the
first time over the planks/hurdles/barriers. I made
some good moves through the turns and found myself in
3rd place at the top of the course. A MTBer (later
found out an Expert) passed me going into the muddy
descent with SDT (teammate)in 2nd. This turned into a trend as I
faded and faded. There was always a big group about
10-15 seconds behind and guys came across one by one.
I tried not to get swallowed up by the group, and
managed to work with the guys who caught me for
awhile, before they would just gently (or not so gently) break the
tether. By the final lap I was caught by a chasing
group and was going to finish somewhere between 5th
and 13th. I attacked on the climb with the gravel road
before the muddy off camber descent, taking an MTB
rider with me. He countered and got a gap with his mud
skills. I closed it down on the final road section and
out sprinted him to the line by half a wheel for 7th,
only 5 seconds or so off of the podium. My chest hurt
so bad! I was dying. I had to sit down for a couple
minutes right after the line. Cross is so much fun.
This was my best result ever in cross, especially
considering the size of the field. Yet, I want to do
better.

Yea I kind of figured there would be some really good riders in that race. But It's good to have some stiff compitition too.
The guy in front of me that sprinted to the finish had to pull over and try not to die too, I was already dead so I had to just let the living go on ;)
