General Cycling Discussion - Need help with finding a style of clipless pedal for these Carnac MTB shoes

I recently bought a pair of used Carnac mountain bike shoes off of eBay. I was excited when the shoes came in the mail and I was ready to throw some SPD cleats on them when I realized that they didn't fit. I tried the shoes with SPD-SL cleats, and they also don't seem to fit!

Here are some pictures of what I have to work with. The second picture has an SPD cleat for reference to size. I have never seen this configuration before and I was wondering if anyone could help me find a pedal/cleat for this shoe?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the white pieces are just some kind
of covers; for folks that use platform pedals perhaps. Try taking them
off and there should be 2 holes underneath where the cleat screws
onto.

The bolt holes on that shoe are for Look-style roadie shoes/cleats but the shoe sole look to be mtb shoes. Do Carnac have an insert to convert to SPD-style cleats?

IMHO, Frenchie mtb shoes scream for Frenchie mtb pedals - Time ATAC!!!

Older Carnac shoes used different adaptor plates for different pedals. The black, plastic adaptor fits between the shoe sole and the actual cleat. I have a pair that will fit spd and Time ATAC pedals. Although they don't have holes for the two side bolts, they do have the holes for the front and rear bolts. It also has the formed front lip that fits into the slot on your shoe sole forward of the front bolt hole. If the front and rear bolt holes are about 65mm apart they should work. PM me if you'd like to try them.

I took a look at eBay per your suggestion, and there seems to be many different varieties of Carnac adaptor plates. If you sent me yours, there seems to be a good chance that it may not fit. I wouldn't want you to send me the plates and have it not work out. Thanks anyways though, I appreciate the offer.

Sinclair imports based in Reno Nevada, was a Carnac distributor,
when I had a pair last.
I got an insert thru them, the shoes I got thru Performance bike.

The thread insert in the shoe sole bonding, failed , so I sent them back to PB.
