Just took apart my vintage 1980 Women's Schwinn World Sport and cane across this part. Can someone identify it for me? If it is a cable end cap, or a "ferrule," how might I use it to end my brake cable? Thank you for your time,
Cassie

That's not a ferrule or cable end cap. did that part come from the inside of the brake handle?

It's called a pocket bolt. Just one of the extra parts that comes when you put something back together that you put in your pocket and walk away whistling... :innocent:

Does it look similar to the part in the photo below, minus the bolt? If so, it's the part of an old-school hub-mounted mechanical odometer that goes on the spoke, and actuates the odometer's little toothed wheel every time it goes by.
I think some spoke reflectors may also have used that type of attachment, so that's another possibility.

Hey...! You are cute!
No idea what it is, looks like a cable stop to me but i'm not familiar with the bike at all. If the bike is working fine just toss that in the unknown parts bin box and ride the bike. I have seen suckers just dropping junk around the bikes just to worry the rider. Maybe is not even from the bike.

+1 I'm pretty sure it's from the inside of the brake lever.
