I am wondering what you guys and gals out there would recommend for a 29er full-suspension bike (either complete or frame). My issue is that I am 5' 11" but my standover is only 29" at maximum, any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Just go to your LBS and try some out. What type of riding do you do? For basic trails almost anything that a LBS sell that is full suspension is going to be a quality bike, and your LBS should be able to help you find a bike that fits you well. Just make sure to test ride everything you are thinking about and just pick the one that you like the best.

I have already been to a few shops and I have to cross the Giant Anthem X 29er as wel as the Scott 29'ers off my list. I am looking for a hard-core trail bike, nothing for really technical use. I will be going through tons of mud and potholes, roots, etc. As far as components go, all my bikes usually settle around the XT/X9/X0 range by time I am done upgrading them so the closer to that a bike can start the better.

I personally haven't ever ridden a 29er, nor a newer full suspension bike. But I personally like the looks of both the Trek Superfly and Rumblefish and plan on getting a HT Superfly when I graduate collage, but I also happen to be a Trek MTB fan, so I am a bit biased. But just keep doing what you are doing, and just keep going around to different shops and test riding different bikes and brands. You'll eventually find something you like.

It sounds like you're looking for an XC bike... if you're trying out trail or AM bicycle you will find the bottom bracket is higher and thus the standover is.

I actually have a scott ransom I am trying to get rid of because the bottom bracket is so high its like getting on a monster truck.

Have you tried the stumpjumper 29r? Trek? Maybe a ladies model?

Look at FS bikes that have a radically sloping top tube or even a curved top tube that provides the stand over you're looking for. Spesh and Trek come to mind. Giant FS bikes still have the straight almost horizontal top tubes on their FS bikes. IMHO, that's a old design especially on a 29er.

I have a RIP 9 and love the frame design on it. The curved sloping hydroformed top tube gives plenty of clearance.
