I recently purchased a blank, hollow lugged, track frame with the word "champion" stamped on the BB. The only thing i found online is this photo (http://thefoxisblack.com/blogimages//garciasons_08.jpeg) which appears to have the same hollow lugs. Can anyone help me identify it? 223111

You should try asking in the classic & vintage forum too. Those dudes know their stuff.

CHAMPION is probably the tubing, made by Tange. No serial number anywhere? Perhaps inside the BB? Also, is there anything indicating what kind of dropouts they are? My best guess based on the tubing itself is that you have some early to mid 80's Japanese frame of some sort. For example, Sekai.

Haha... pretty much. They bought the bike for it's parts and sold me the frame. Although they offered me the wheels, I just couldn't afford them.

Thank you for the info. I couldn't find any serial anywhere and I may hold off on looking inside the BB on account that I'm just too happy to have it in riding condition to mess with it. Here are some photos of the dropouts and BB stamp:

My guess: a used, repainted Keirin frame with a replacement fork.

Thanks again JDT, I could say this makes my day.

would probably get that BB faced because of the powercoat.

How would one go about "facing" a BB? I assume it helps with the chipping (It is chipping profusely at the BB).

Take it to a bike shop and ask them to face it (may as well check the headtube too because if the BB wasn't done the head tube probably wasn't either). Hopefully there's no crunky paint inside either.

Thanks, will do as soon as I have the funds. Would I (or my frame) be in any immediate danger if I postponed the process for awhile?

You'll be fine. Small/tiny risk of frame/parts damage due to not being aligned 100% but I doubt it. People ride way worse.

How would one go about "facing" a BB? I assume it helps with the chipping (It is chipping profusely at the BB).

"Facing" ensures that the sides of the bottom bracket shell are parallel with each other and perpendicular to the axis of the bottom bracket threads. If this is not the case, it will be difficult to impossible to properly adjust the bearings and your bottom bracket components will wear out sooner. If there is paint or powder coat on the sides of the bottom bracket shell, the thickness of the coating may be different in different places, meaning the bottom bracket components may not be able to seat in proper alignment. Facing removes the coating and ensures everything is aligned well.

To do this properly, you need a precision (read: expensive) tool:

I see now, that makes total and perfect sense. I may make a trip to my most trusted LBS when I have the funds. How much does facing generally cost?

Well, I'm getting a frame worked on in a week or so, if you haven't had the work done by then I'll let you know how much they charged me.

$15 to face the headtube and BB.

i agree with this. though you could still ask in C&V if you want more information, especially on the lugs. problem is, who made the lugs and who built the frame aren't necessarily the same company, and the same lugs are often used on numerous different manufacturers frames

This is really cheap. My LBS charged me $20 just for a head tube face/ream.

Seemed reasonable since the tool is $400.

I have already started a thread in C & V (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/775622-Mystery-frame-identifiction) where JDT gave me the same information (my bike isn't the same as the one in the pic).
