Hi all. Have just been given an older road bike by my brother who bought it from a shop second hand but was confident everything was in good working order.
The problem is when loading the pedals in first gear eg on hills the rear derailleur jumps out back to 3rd or 4th gear The gear levers are mounted on the down tube (old style).
Is it just a case of tightening up the friction in the lever so that it is stiffer to change gear or could something be more serious? The throw of the chain up and down the rear cassette looks fine from a quick try out. Thanks for any replies. Dave
