I have scoured the internet looking for the original MSRP of my 1987 Trek 2500 carbon-composite frame and was wondering if anybody has an idea of the original price tag or where it could be found.

The bike was outfitted with Shimano 600 with a Dur-Ace front derailleur and custom Mavic Open 4CD wheels.

I was hit by a taxi while riding this bike and the accident irreparably damaged the carbon down tube when the down tube shifter was ripped off the tube and punctured a hole in the tube.

I am also open to opinions of what bike on the market now would be comparable, in terms of like-kind replacement value, to this top of the line bike in 1987.

Thanks!

Is the taxi's insurance paying for a new bike? They certainly should. I'd ask for an exact replica of my bike. Because that may be impossible, I'd request a new Madone. Don't let them screw you! Details on the accident? Were the police involved?

I'd say the going price for a bike like that would be about $300-$400. I see similar ones on CL occasionally.

@ FastJake:

Regarding the accident, the police were on scene and I have a police report. Theoretically, the taxi's insurance company should pay for like-kind replacement value for the bike, that's why I am interested in the original MSRP for it. A bike shop did say that an equivalent replacement now would probably be the Madone 5.2, so, we'll see what happens.
