For a while the front wheel on my mtb has made the occasional "pinging" noise, like something was up with the spokes. lately it's gotten much worse, and i've noticed it seems like a lot of the spokes have lost tension
surprising the wheel is still true. is there a way i can tension it without having to retrue it afterwards, or am i going to have to true it again no matter what?

just tighten all spokes evenly, go in 1/4 turn rounds. should stay pretty true. will need some touch up but not much assuming rim is in good shape etc.

i started out doing that but some spokes seemed pretty good already. i ended up tensioning them in pairs and that worked out ok. at first i didn't do it in pairs so i did have to do some truing, and it's not perfect but on my test ride i didn't hear any pinging so that's good. i don't like it when my bikes make any kind of weird noise
