I just picked up a Kay Model 1961 w/case and appropriate 3 tube amp. A true 9.5. Anyone familiar with them?
vaguely,
In an ex-life I used to sell guitars (and other instruments and
33rpm LPs).
3 tube amp? now that sounds interesting what type if I may?
BTW are you close to New Hope?

i know a little about kays. pretty basic guitars for the time but if yours is in good shape they can worth a few hundred bucks. post a pic if you have one.

The amp is a Danelectro Cadet Model 122. At this time it's not working. All the tuvbes are lit, just that one is much dimmer than the other two. I'm thinking therein may be the problem.
Yeah, New Hope is about a half hour away in weekday traffic, double that on weekends. Are you familiar with the area?

If things slow down a bit today Tim I'll try to get a few up. It's kleen with a kapitol 'K'
Stacey,
Yeah, lived is southern NJ (willingboro a long time ago) and we used
to hang out in New Hope. Went to ringing rocks a few times for a day
of consuming rolling rock. Washingtons crossing was one of my favourite
parks.
There used to be this little jewlery store in New Hope called Earthen Silver I did their
outside sign (calligraphy and stuff), probably long gone. That was mid 70's.

Good Gawd Marty,
What a small world! My ex is from 'boro, JFK '72. We lived in Burlington. You hung out in New Hope? You're not um, er .... "Boheiman" too? :) They have a neat bike path on both sides of the Delaware that we ride between New Hope and Washington's Crossing The PA side rins foever along the canal. Interesting terrain (as public trails go) not just a flat cinder bed.
I think Earthen Silver is still there... I'll have to check next time I'm out that way.
HAH... Got the amp working :D Amazing what a layer of dust will do on that 1/4" jack... swabbed down the contacts, plugged 'er in and my ears were treateted to the finest of Howlin' Wolf Blues tones. I was going to sell it, but I think I just gotta keep it.
I like it. but then I tend to like old tubed amplifiers (both guitar and audio),
there's something about the sound of tubes.
If anyone is in doubt give a listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn's version
of Little Wing. You can hear the tubes frying. . .wonderful.
Stacey, the guitar looks early to mid 60's. Would sound really
good through a 1964 Ampeg. . .

looks like both the guitar and amp are in good shape. i kinda like those smaller necks - 18 frets if i counted correctly. good job on getting the amp to work. stuff from that era is usually so simple that there are rarely problems that can't be fixed. i once bought a fender twin from someone who claimed it was broken. all i did was tighten one of the tubes and it was brought back to life. enjoy!
