Electric Bikes - Help needed with building new Electric Mountain Bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am a hiker/climber that injured myself a couple years ago and can no longer walk, hike, or bike much. I am desperate to get back on the trail, and so I've come to the conclusion that an electric mountain bike is probably the way to go. The only problem - I know very little about bikes.

If anyone could help make some recommendations for me I'd appreciate it a ton. Here's what I'm looking for:

a) Around $2-$4k - flexible on this one, but would obviously prefer cheaper if possible
b) Full suspension off road bicycle
c) Pedal assist and throttle
d) Can get me up and down steep trails
e) Powerful long distance battery ( ability to do 8 miles uphill at 4000 feet gain would be nice)
f) Reliable, won't break down

Me = around 140 pounds, some experience working with electronics, not afraid to get my hands dirty

So basically I want something like an optibike, but much cheaper. The e+ m-750 2.0 seems like a interesting choice, and I love the convenience of a folding bike, but that's closer to $4k and the distance I'd get with the battery seems a little low. If I could build something better for cheaper that would be the best option

Any ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated!!!!

Do you mean Eplus M-750 2 ?
I own E+ 1000W and it can do what you need, it can be powered on non-factory battery for sure,
They Electric Motion System sells E+ mounted on all kind of frames.
M-750 E+ is the most expensive ,because it is limited edition to commemorate legendary Tidal Force ebike with identical frame.
E+ cost money , because it is made in USA product NOT Chinese brand like most of ebikes in the world.
And is designed to last.
As I said any 36V battery can power it.

Thanks powell. Yes, I was referring to the Eplus M-750 2. It looks like an awesome bike, and ryur right that it could definitely work for me with a second battery, but I'm trying to figure out if I could get something that fits my needs better by building a bike from scratch. Maybe something like a montague paratrooper frame, crystalyte 5304 rear hub motor, and some lipo batteries. My concern is the crystalyte might be too heavy, but then again I've never mountain biked so I really have no idea what I'm doing, lol

Check out Ecospeed for an option. Read up about Mtn bikes on the forum. Many systems can be added to any number of bikes so you need to know a bit about mtn bikes first. I like Ecospeed because it is one of the systems that I have used that hasn't broken down. Plan on spending some bucks if you need a reliable system,ie, you couldn't pedal yourself out if the electrics broke down.
