Are there any mechanical/ergonomic differences between 2010, 2011 and 2012 SRAM Rival/Force groups, within the same group? In other words, can you mix 2010 – 2012 Rival/Force components on the same build?

Yes- The only issue will be the shifter/derailluer compatibility. Match 10 speed stuff with 10 speed stuff. Same for 9 speed, etc.

SRAM rival force apex red are all 10 speed
