Advocacy & Safety - Now here is a solution to help make the roads safer

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Isn't that the equivalent of "blaming the victim?"
I have to wonder... are they gonna shoot anybody that gets out of their car?

Unenforcable and illegal.

Any of us could ride right through that town, or around town, without violating that law.

Well, that's one way to get rid of those pesky on-street parking places that have deadly "Kryptonic" door zones. If no one can walk along the street there is no need to allow anyone to park on the street.

There is no such law.

I would propose that they do an experiment -
The purported purpose of the law is to improve safety, so they should enact the law that provides the safest environment. If they have a total ban on pedestrians and cyclists for one month, then have a total ban on motorized vehicles for one month. Whichever month sees fewer injuries should dictate what the permanent law will be.
And then they passed legislation banning music & dancing too. :)

I laughed when I read that they want this ordinance, when they don't have a police department to enforce it.:roflmao2::lol:

I liked the stop sign in the last photo in the article.

Don't forget Blackhawk/born/wood, or whatever it is Co. That nice little casino town that has banned bicycles from most streets, particularly those that are closest to the casino.
If it wasn't for their example I wouldn't think that it would happen.

I thought that only airplanes had to file "flight" plans. I wonder what would happen if a cyclist or pedestrian didn't file a "flight" plan. And just who are they suppose to file this "flight" plan with?
Given that this nice little town doesn't have a police force of it's own and would have to pay the local sheriff to enforce this little law I can just see the sheriff his/her just "dropping" what they're doing and rushing to enforce this fine law.

In that little town the results might well be the same: 0. :)
Not quite qhat it seems. Check out the piece on the Wisconsin Bike Federation site: http://www.bfw.org/

What I'd like to see is that cars be the ones who have to file a "flight plan." And a steep fine if the drivers deviate from said plan just like pilots face if they deviate from their filed flight plan, unless it's an emergency.
There is no such law.

Thanks for this insight. It's a shame that journalists resort to wanting to slant things for visceral effect. Sounds like the Hull folks have reasonable balance after all.
And I like this (although it should not be necessary):

I want to put a little sign under there that says "cars too."

Sadly, there are those here who feel as if cyclists should be able to ignore red lights and stop signs.
