Recreational & Family - Question about Trek

My first post so sorry if this is in the wrong area. After being housebound for almost 2 years I'm looking for a new bike since my last one was stolen (Trek Navigator 300) that had maybe 200 miles on it. I'm looking for something to help get back into shape but don't plan on ride far distances and staying on pavement.

Do you recommend either of these? Is there another brand I should be looking at?

I'm not an avid biker and sometimes the lingo on here confuses me, keep that in mind please.

My wife and I both have Navigator 2.0s and 7100/7200s and love them. We use the Navs for riding non paved paths the 7000s are for pavement. My Navigator is my favorite bike, and I have alot of bikes.

I love my Raleigh Venture 3.0, also bought a Cannondale Comfort 4 so my wife or kids could ride with me, but we all prefer the Raleigh. Sorry, I don't have any experience with the Trek

I've got the 2011 7100 and love it (I actually rode a century on it in September). I've used it on paved and unpaved bike trails. It rides smooth and easy. I replaced the tires that came on it (35s down to 32s). The only real difference between the 7100 and 7200 is the upgraded components on the 7200 (I believe the 7200 has thumb shifters). If my memory is correct, the Navigator is a little heavier than the 7200.

Thanks So based on this I guess I'll look more at the 7000 series. So do you guys think Trek is the brand I should stick with? I'd like to pick up something soon. I need to get back into shape big time.

It looks like Trek is the bike your LBS carries. There is certainly nothing wrong with any of them.

The ones you linked are all similar I would say pick the one you are drawn to. For the distances you want to ride and to start getting into shape on a bike they will all do the trick I say. Dress it up to suit your usage. Maybe a rack or basket, lights or a bell. But get a good lock and read up on the best way to secure your new bike that’s a must.

My wife bought a Trek 7000 to use on the roads ans bike paths and loves it. She is quicker on this one compared to the equivalent Gaint bike that she had borrowed.

So what bike did you get? And how do you like it?
