according to the story I read, it really wasn't ever seriously consideredYet they wrote it down. Then after they got a bunch of heat over it, they stated it was never a serious consideration.
Sounds like a serious waste of money writing bills that you never plan on seriously considering.

my impression was that someone made the mistake of saying it out loud, and a reporter wrote it down. Around here, everything they say in meetings is televised and they are far more circumspect than that.
I simultaneously understand and ridicule the people that choose to live in these bedroom communities who are surprised that they built a house in the middle of an area that people have been using for recreation for many years. We have the same thing around here on many of the prime cycling routes; the cyclists were sharing these roads with a few farmers long before the builders started developing the farmland into housing tracts. Now the people that bought those houses whine that the cyclists are slowing them down on their over-long commutes. Not to mention their trips to get milk that cost $10 in gas.

That same trip is now 2.5-4X the cost over the last decade. At this stage of the game, it's almost a penalty to live in rural America for lack of infrastructure. Almost better off retiring to a relatively larger city and if you still have a car, try to schedule any driving to off peak traffic hours. Even for the unemployed winding up scheduling an interview for time periods where those commuting to and from work, even the lunch hour traffic is avoided.

This thing is claimed to be a proposed ordinance. Around here, that would mean that someone has written out the text of exactly what they think the ordinance should be. There have been a lot of statements from both sides, but what does that proposal actually say? It's not on their website. Is anybody on this forum close enough to go request a copy? At worst, you might need to do a FOIA request form and pay reasonable copying costs, but our city secretary has always just handed out proposal text upon oral request since processing the paperwork and a <$2 payment ends up costing more than the actual copying.
What the politicians say it says is meaningless. We're dealing with a couple of non-cycling-related proposed ordinances here; the police chief has given statements that don't match the text of the proposals, and the four council members I've talked to all have their own contradictory opinions of what it means.
The only thing that really matters in the end is the exact text that they're trying to put into the city's code of ordinances. That is what you will be charged with, and good luck trying to build a defense in court based on an oral comment from a politician that doesn't match the actual text of the ordinance.
