What exactly is a "fit kit" -- I'm going to be purchasing my road bike (Trek 2200...*drool*) in the near future, and I want to make sure that I fit it as well as possible before dropping that amount of money on a bicycle[1]...

For those of you who care to share in the drooling, you can check out a picture of one of these bad boys here (http://www.caree.org/images/Bikes/2002/Trek2200.jpg).

[1] After this, and selling off my car to get a cheaper one, this bike will cost more than my automobile. :D

A fit kit is a bunch of wooden measuring devices used to fit a person to their bike.

You do not need to have this done to buy a bike. You do need to be fitted to the bike. That is proper seat height, fore and aft position, maybe a new stem and that is about all you will need.

The fit kit is used to custom order a bike from a manufacture.

Good luck. I hope you love your new rocket.
