Touring - KHS Flite 300 - Is this a touring bike?

Hi - I have been mountain biking for several years now, but want to by a touring bike for day trips from different destinations around the province. I doubt I'll ever take on a multi-day trip with a lot of gear, panniers front and back. I want something that is efficient, but reasonably comfortable. I was not able to test ride this bike today because of the snow-storm, and will likely have wait until spring. Any info would be appreciated.

Have you thought of simply modifying your Mtb for those day trips?

Yes, I guess I could buy an extra set of rims and slicks, and swith them off as required. Those road/touring bikes sure look nice though! Thanks.

The 300 isn't a touring bike, it's a Road bike. Touring bikes have longer chainstays and slack geometry to make all day trips in the saddle comfy. Look at a Trek 520 as an example of a touring bike. If you like to build your own, check out the surly Long Haul Trucker, which is what I ride. Nice bike, but only available as a frameset, the rest is up to you or the bike shop that builds it.

The KHS model is more of a light tourer/sport bike than a race bike. It is fine for day rides and week long hostel tours but not loaded expedition tours. Loaded tourers are possibly over-built for fast day rides in summer, but their uses overlap with sport bikes.
For this kind of riding (which I do alot), I would prefer fenders in the front and rear, and a luggage rack. I think The carbon forks lack a fender fitting and the tyre clearance is a bit tight.
Fuji sport bikes all seem to have the right rack and fender fittings for this style.
