Well I built it!:D Finally got the headset bearing last night. I needed a star nut as well so the dude at the shop said $12.00 to cut the fork and install the nut. He had to set up the headset as well while doing so.

I gave him $20, saved me from having to buy a hack saw ( I lost mine).

So building it took about 3 hours, most of the time cleaning the components real good and swapping wheels with the other bike. Assembly was easy. Hardest part was removing the ugly warning sticker from the fork.:twitchy:

Well looks like a bike and tomorrow is the maiden voyage on SART. I expect to make a few adjustments on the ride as the cables adjust.

Sorry, no white door.

SART, seems to run well but if something happens to go wrong, I'd much rather find out on SART than GMR descent.:D

Assembled with TLC but sometimes new cables can play games on ya!:p

Looks nice. Carbon?

Mr. Beanz
10-28-11, 07:16 PM
Yup, free of charge from Trek.:D

I might have tried carbon someday if I had the money. But since gave it to me as a warranty replacement, I won't fight about it. My aluminum has broken two times so I have nothing to lose trying carbon. Last frame was carbon and aluminum and it broke at the aluminum, not the carbon. ;)

If this breaks, then I'll take up jogging.:p

There's always steel...

:D

Ordering a steel touring/road bike tomorrow. I can't wait. I'm not building it myself... the LBS is putting it together. I think my bike after this I'll try that out though. The only parts that confuse me are bottom brackets and headsets. Oh and building wheels is probably beyond my skill level at the moment. But everything else I can do on my own. Replaced cassettes, shifters, and derailleurs on my own already.

Can you explain what SART is? GMR?

Local southern California rides..
SART - Santa Ana River Trail (when done, 100 miles paved multi used path without any stops from local mountains to beach)
GMR - Glendora Mountain Road/Ridge (a mountain climb that was hard for me, 2300 foot elevation gain in 8 miles for first leg)

Yup, SeaJeep Dude got it right. SART is the long flat trail and GMR is the mtn climb you see in my reports

Sweet.

A purely aesthetic suggestion, if the fit is right as it is in the photo, a zero-setback seat post would look better I think.

And flip it.

Hahah, I'm not a flipper, comfort first.:D

I'll have to ride it to see how it fits on a longer ride (I've only done a 2 minute alley ride). I may need to go with a shorter stem if it fits as is. I know the post was too high in the pic, I took pics before adjusting anything. ;)

Yeah, me too:D I went from my full alum to a 3/5 carbon frame and didn't feel a difference. Maybe full carbon will feel different. We'll see.:p

Curious to the durability as well.:D

Keep it away from your Cannondale. She has reason to be jealous now ;)

Sweet ride!

Looks very nice! :thumb: I see you did the same thing I do to all my bikes when I first get them home-lose the reflectors, warning stickers, and dork disk. :D

Of course, you know what part of the bike's performance I'm most curious about: Climbing! ;)

I do the same with my bikes, but this was a new build. I doubt Beanz had any of those things on it to begin with.

Sweet Ride Mr. Beanz!

I am looking forward to the GMR ride report as well. I can't mention carbon around the house atm, I'm still trying to convince the wifey that $1600 isn't too much for a steel bike.

The picture of the SART is hilarious with the roller-blader drafter the group of cyclists. Looks to me like the roller-blader is just about ready to lay some smack-down on some cyclists.

Nice looking ride Mr. Beanz ! Be sure to post a video of you riding your new steed. I'll be riding indoors for awhile on a spin bike, just got done shoveling about 6 inches of snow and it's still coming down hard.

Rode nicely today!:thumb: Maybe GMR next week. I need to test on the flats first. Finding out the hard way at 35 mph is a scary thought.:D

Bummer! I had it all nice and waxed, beauty day and nice clean ride. Last 20 yards to the coast was a wet underpass. Muddy splaTter!

I can image the mess snow makes. If I were there, I'd more than likely wait till spring to ride a new bike.:D

I pull out my old Cannondale and ride it when the roads have been plowed wide enough. I did join a gym for the first time last week so I could try and not gain over the winter. By the way we finished off with 18 inches of snow, so I did get a nice workout shoveling.
