Commuting - Longest Mileage Without Flat?

I'm a stat nut. In my years as a commuter I have always kept pretty detailed statistics on my rides, so I was looking through my older bike logs and saw this: When we used to live in Golden, Colorado I used to commute to my job in Lakewood, and I went from October 11, 1991 to June 5, 1993 without a puncture - it was 2,366.3 miles (only actually commuted in the summer months). I was using a 1985 Trek 520 Touring bike with 27" wheels on Tioga 27" knobby tires with thick tubes. Anybody beat that? Or nobody else as anal as I am with trivia?

The Schwalbe Hurricanes I have been running for well over 5 years have never had a flat, have rolled out to 10,000 miles / 16,000 km, and still look great.

Put 10,000 km on some Schwalbe CX Compes and never had a flat and then turned them into studded winter tyres and still... no flats.

I just rode from Beijing to New Delhi on a set of Schwalbe Marathon XRs with one flat. 7,500k and they dont even look half worn. Considering the glass strewn highways of China, Tibet, Nepal, and India, I was damn impressed. Read more here: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/thecyclingvagabond

I put over 6000 miles on a single set of Schwalbe Marathon Pluses without any punctures.

I got one yesterday and have rode 5 miles since. Damn goat heads. Guess I'm out of the running.

Switched to Marathon Plus's 10 days ago and am currently in my longest flat-free streak, at 250 miles. Let's hope it continues.

I've gone 20,000 miles between flats on Marathon Plus.

Save for a punctured tube while dismounting one of the tires for an experiment, I'm up to 1890 miles on my 700x30 Kenda Kwicks. Doubt I'll make it to 6000 miles (to say nothing of 20000!), but I think I've gotten my money's worth. :)

P.S. This is the longest recorded mileage I have for any of the tires I've used so far...

using 26"x1.95" Armadillo tires and thick tubes with slime inside I got:
7K+ miles on the front tire, and 15K+ miles on the rear tire without a flat.
The rear has only 1/32" of tread remaining though.
I'm getting a Schwalbe next to try.

There is a guy in A&S claiming that he has not had a flat in over 15 years.

Correction - the guy is claiming to have had ONLY one flat in 15 years.

Ha! Guess my bike's next pair of shoes is going to be Schwalbe Marathon Plus! I am no longer impressed with my 2,366.3 miles, and I bow to the masters!:thumb:

I've got 1500 miles on my 25c Pasela Tour-Guards and have yet to have a flat

Just put around 700 miles on the tube in my rear Serfas Seca tire. I had to retire that tube because when removing the pump head, I tore the valve off of the tube. I was inflating the tires while it was lying down (on the non drive side, of course!) and when I went to pull the pump head off of the schrader valve, I guess I pushed it towards the side of the bike and it tore the valve stem. After hearing the "whoosh" of the 110psi I had just put in it escaping, I knew there was nothing I could do for the tube and I ripped the valve off.

I went a full year of randonneuring without a flat. Then I had a simultaneous double flat and two flats the next week. I have done pretty well commuting, but earlier this year JoPa had a party at his house and the street was full of glass and I flatted a brand new tire.

Between five different bikes its been at least since 2004.....

Not Tuffys, no "punture resistant tubes, no slime, and several sets of extremely lightweight tires (i.e., Maxxis 310s, etc.), but the tire pressure is checked daily before I ride. And I'm still doing between 3k-5k miles a years minimum, but I have no idea how far each bike has gone except that three of the bikes have never had flats since they were built.

I think a lot of flats are caused by not really paying enough attention to what is in front of you. I've had several friend on road bikes ride right through broken glass on the road because they were talking to each other. In most cases I will surrender my own spare tube and swap them out because I hate to have to wait while they fumble with tire tools. I draw the line at pumping up the fixed wheel though.....

I'm about 1500 miles since my last flat. A small wood screw in the rear. Most of my tires have some puncture resistant belt, but no tuffys or slime. It was probably about 1200 miles after the one before that, a large nail also in the rear. That's about it in recent memory. None of the culprits would have been easy to see at anything close to normal riding speed, and I'm slow.

kenda kwest high pressure 26" 3 years 2700 miles no flat.

Conti tires on my bike (similar to their cityRide or somesuch) - 4,500 miles, no flats.

It'd been over 3 years since my last flat until 2 weeks ago. Well over 16,000 miles on 2 sets of SMPs on 2 commuter rigs. Starting the count all over again. :p

I don't track mileage between flats, but it's a lot. I try not to brag about it too often, as last time I did, I got a flat.

Thanks Lot's Knife! I am still finishing up the end but life has been crazy in the post-tour world.

Just for clarification, my front marathon XR has never had a flat. The read has had 1.
