I dont know how far I will make it, but punkncat, Daniel (dahamac), and myself will be setting out tomorrow morning on the Silver Comet Trail here in Atlanta. Those two guys are distance cyclists, apparently because Dahamac wants to go about 50 miles. If I make it 10-20 Ill be extremely happy! Im going to go as far as I can and my wife will pick me up where I stop. Regardless, if I go more than 8 miles, it will be further than I have ever gone before.
Im nervous, antsy, and very excited for this ride tomorrow! hopefully one of them will have a goPro or some sort of video camera to capture my big ass humping it to keep up. :D:thumb:

Best of luck! Don't even watch the miles. Just enjoy the ride. You might be surprised at how far you can go.

+1...many times riders go way beyond beause they are enjoying company and not focusing (dwelling) on what they have done.

+1 to what Mr. Bean says.
There are two ways to achieve long distances.
Speed, and time in the saddle.
I assume you will go for time in the saddle.
Plan on a 10 minute rest every hour, and eat a chocolate bar, or energy bar every hour.
Since you are in the deep south, it will still be relatively warm. As previously mentioned, take extra water.
Drink a pint of water (or a regular size waterbottle) every hour.
You don't need to carry more than 2 waterbottles if there are convenience stores along the way.
If the other guys want to speed on ahead, say "goodbye and see you later." Then carry on at your own speed.
Everybody is unhappy if someone is slow. They feel rushed, and the speedy ones feel held back.
Good luck, and enjoy the day, either in the group, or solo.

Im in it for the saddle time, for sure. The guys going with me are here in the Clyde forum as well and they said that it doesn't matter how slow I am or how far I want to go. They want me to be safe and to get saddle time and just have fun. Im not out to race anyone and neither are they. Im just going to go as far as I can and Im not gonna kill myself doing it. Gonna be fun!

Sounds like a good group to ride with! Enjoy and you will be surprised - I did 28.5 a little over a week ago and the most before that was like 10-12 (I don't know because I didn't run my GPS app on my longest ride while my wife was getting her hair done)

If the three of you are going to have fun, then there's no reason to worry, is there?
