I want to remove the stickers from my bike. It is a raleigh road bike and I want to remove the stickers from the downtube. (Bikes have gotten flashier since I bought my first road bike!)

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

If they are under the paint, you may have to repaint the whole bike. If they are on top of the paint, just peel them off and use a de-gooing solvent like "GOO-Gone" . it can be found at almost all Wall-Mart stores. Or rubbing alcohol ( its risky, some paint will dissolve in rubbing alcohol).

If the bike has any potential present or future collectibility, removing the decals can reduce its resale value significantly.

I would definitely recommend the Goo-Gone product. It's fairly easy to find, and works wonders! :)

Thanks for the input! I don't belief my current bike will be a collector's item but thanks for the head's up in case it would be.:)

Now, my follow-up question: Will Goo-gone harm the paint? The frame is aluminum.

Thanks!

Goo-Gone will not damage the paint. Products like rubbing alcohol and Varsol or anything like that will damage the paint. Goo -Gone can be used on just about anything. i got chewing gum out of a fleece sweater with it. Good luck with it.

stella,
If your Raleigh is anything like my 1999 Raleigh R600 the stickers are under a clear finish. To remove them you will have to remove the finish and this will mess up the paint.

Why do you want to remove the stickers?
Surely you're not going to replace them with Trek or Cannondale stickers. :D <j/k>

 Hello, Ron!

I definately do not plan on putting any other stickers on the bike.

If I can figure out how to download a picture of the bike-I'll post it by the end of this w/e so you can see.

The R600 I have is a lot "louder" than previous years...I just wanted to remove the sticker on the down-tube.

Maybe I've just been in New England too long-picked up that Puritan color sense!

If the stickers are under the paint as Ron suggested, You might consider re-painting the down tube with automtive spray enamel --if you can find a compatible color.
