Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - 200lb's & getting heavier the more I ride

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I do not have a body fat problem, I have a more muscle/more appetite problem. My legs are getting much bigger than they were since I became incapable of running, I'm just afraid of getting back to my fighting weight of 220lbs. It's genetic & the only way I could control it would be painful fasting.

I was struggling at 185, wanting a much lighter bike thinking it would make my knee & life easier. But while waiting for this 15lb bike that would make my jacked up knee & my life a whole lot easier. I rode & I got bigger, even my upper body has regained it's youthful appearance,LOL! So now I have this 15lb bike that doesn't make a dimes worth of differenc,e $6,000.00 maybe, but I should have just stuck with the $700.00 bike. I know most of you guys are trying to lose weight & I really admire you for that, because Katy bar the door if I'm working out & get hungry. I feel like a fighter trying to cut weight it sucks & I'm just not going to do it for love nor cycling.

Do I sell the super bike and punch the 145 pounder's off their superbikes when they look at my $700.00 bike and turn their noses up at me, or do I keep the superbike, put some 27's or bigger and just try not to think about the $6,000.00's and enjoy the ride?:o

Sgt Mac, You can only be the best weight that your body type will allow. Keep on riding whether it's on the super bike (no sense in dumping it) or not and eat sensibly.

Get a body fat % taken. Manage your body by body fat %, not total weight. My goal? 10%, with a stretch goal of 7%.

This.

Though I'll say, I've taken an entire month off from the bike ... no running, no riding, just a month off ...

and my hunger has subsided.

Couple that with some ongoing stress/strife in my life, and my weight loss plateau has finally been breached, and I'm down to 265, the lightest I've been since high school I think.

That said, I have a 5K this coming Saturday, and I spent last night cleaning up, degreasing and getting my bike ready for the indoor trainer season. I'm hoping I can keep losing as I return to the bike.

All that said ... I'm never going to be under 200 ... never. It'd be unnatural and I have a feeling, unhealthy, for me ... my goal is 220 ... still firmly in Clyde-land, and I'm ok with that

I say ditch the 6k bike, stick with a sensible ride and punch the weight weenies off their superbikes. You didn't say that superbike is significantly more enjoyable to ride, and unless you are getting paid a salary to win races, that's the only valid reason I can think of to spend a butt load of cash on a bike.

Keep the bike. If you sell it you'll just buy more food. :P

Still punch the weight weenies. Or at least drop them going uphill!

If you aren't having a body fat problem, don't worry about it.

One if yoo don't need the money why sell the bike; a 15 lb bike still gives you the ride of a 15 lb 6k bike!! As others have said worry about body fat/lean body mass; worry if your cloths aren't geting smaller that is the problem in weight maintance! Also if you are gaining fat; log EVERY THING THAT GOES IN YOUR MOUTH! You will be surprized about the # of Calories you consume vs the # needed to support life sometimes.

anyone that turns their nose up at a $700 bike is a pile of pig vomit and you're crazy if you give them any consideration.
