Introductions - Hello to all from SoCal

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

New to the biking/commuting scene. Figured it would get into it for both saving $$ long term and the exercise and potential time saving. No bike yet, that is why i signed up here to try and get some advice on buying used vs new etc. Will be posting in those areas soon. Thanks for anyone who helps out.

welcome, do you know bicycle mechanics and would you be working on eveything yourself? If so I would highly recommend buying used from craigs list or ebay. if your not so mechanically gifted then definately walk into a bike shop and purchase new. the shop will probably offer some "follow up" maintenace incentive and help you select the proper size frame.
what type of bike are you interested in? fat tire (mountian), skinny pizza cutter wheels (road bike), or something in between (hybrid). Do you want gears or not?
