Guys,
I am building a frame using some older components. While everything is torn apart, I would like to clean it all up.
Some of the components (esp. the crank) are dirty, kinda "stained" (?). Maybe it is some type of mild corrosion - I'm not sure...
How should I clean this? Buff w/ Flitz? Any info appreciated!

I like Flitz and elbow grease for polishing a titanium frame. It should be fine for external parts like handlebars, stems, and crank arms. For greasy parts I prefer a citrus degreaser. Simple Green is a good cleaner, but seems to leave a residue. Internal parts that show rust or corrosion (cups, cones, bearings) should probably be replaced. Frame members or external parts that show rust should be inspected carefully and replaced if the rust is more than skin deep. Rusty spots on frames need to be stopped. Clean them up and repaint them.
Simple Green -diluted- and soft rags for the painted area with SOS/BRILLO pads for steel and chrome. Be sure to rinse everything to avoid a residue film. Wax the frame afterwards.

If it's surface rust, on the drivetrain components, I like to shoot a bit of WD40 (maybe a crappy lubericant, but it's a pretty good cleanter) and use a sturdy cloth with elbow grease. If it's just muck, I like Orange Peelz. It is pretty much like every other citrus degreaser, but I think it might be just a bit more powerful. As mentioned above though, be sure to throughly rinse afterwards.
