Sunday I'm riding from N. Fontana up Lytle Creek to the firing range, back down, and then Cajon Pass to the end and back!

May need to look at the weather closer and maybe change my ride to Saturday! Oh wait! I'm running a 5K w/ my wife on Saturday! Guess I"m dodging the rain on Sunday!

Saturday: Working Open Access in Limestone Canyon and will be riding my mountain bike (going up Limestone Cayon to teh Sinks and then Cactus to Limestone Ridge)

Sunday: As if Saturday's ride were not enough, I am suppose to be riding Maple Springs to 4 Corners and hopefully to Santiago Peak (Santa Ana Mountains).

I pray weather gets colder as predicted cause if hot like yesterday I am doomed!

I have ridden roads, trails, and sidewalks with the Burley. We even dragged the Burley up Asuza Canyon road on a busy weekend morning (towards the Morris Reservoir). When riding on roads, the parent pulling the Burley goes first, and the 2nd parent follows. We feel safer that way.

This will be our first time riding around Laguna Hills with the Burley since we moved. There's one section on Moulton that will require us to ride the sidewalk (even going the wrong direction on the return trip). It's a 1/4 mile stretch of uphill with two lanes running in each direction, with nothing resembling a bike lane (doesn't even have a fog line). This is right next to Leisure World and there's practically NO foot traffic on the sidewalk. So I have no qualms riding on it.

Gonna try a cyclocross event for the first time on Sunday morning in long beach. Should be an interesting change.

Saturday I get to chill at a chuckie cheeze for a 6 year olds birthday party. Might pull the kid around in our trailer beforehand to preemptively burn off some of the crap pizza.

Hey CalamariChris, you should check out the 6/12 hours of temecula event next weekend. I know you have a MTB. Might be a fun endurance challenge. I'm thinking of trying it, would be nice to see a familiar face. I'll be doing the 6 hour version.

My wife will be out of town this weekend so if I do anything, it's going to be with the kid in tow on the trailer. I might take him to little Corona again - he likes it, I like it... and it's pretty good mileage. I'd really love to ride him down to Laguna Beach there because he likes that playground and inevitably he'll find someone he knows from school there... but there's no way I'll take the trailer all the way down Laguna Canyon from here. There's that stretch right after the toll-road where there's just no shoulder and the cars go waaaay too fast. The alternative would be to take him down PCH where the bike lanes are better but you have to deal with worse traffic and parked cars.

If Idoru2005 came up with some kind of epic trailer pulling event for the weekend, I'm sure I'd be up for it.

Are either of you pulling w/ Carbon ??? I'm thinking about getting an aluminum bike for pulling the stroller. Only place I'd feel contfortable would be along the ol' Mup as I ride alone most of the time. Would be pretty cool to organize a baby pulling tour along the SART or Back Bay, now that I'm familiar with that area.

Thanks for thinking of me JmX. Mountainbiking really isn't my thing. I like to fart around and go exploring (especially :love: Catalina!), but that's Veteran's Day weekend, so I might even be spending it on Catalina with my mtb. Have fun & be safe!

I normally tow with my aluminum hybrid, but I've done a few hundred miles of towing with my carbon bike and it seems fine. My trailer attaches to the rear skewer. It seems like it wouldn't really matter what the bike is made of. Plus on the carbon bike if I get down on the aerobars while towing I can hit like 11mph. :D

I know a great place to take our families for a ride. It's up Azusa Canyon road; up near East Fork there's a off road area. Just past the off-road area, there's a Forest Service Parking lot with a trailhead leading to the Cogswell Dam. I think it's about a 20 mile round trip to the dam. The trail itself is paved, and closed to motor traffic. Lots of hikers, joggers, and campers. It follows a creek, and there are sheer cliffs on the sides, simply beautiful. There are a couple of water crossings as well, which makes it a blast for kids in the Burley.

I haven't pulled with Carbon but I've been discussing it and I'm going to do it - it's just a matter of time. There was a thread about carbon on a trainer and folks were saying carbon is less susceptible to repetitive stress fracture, which sounds a lot like pulling a trailer to me. I also have a skewer mount - although I"m not sure how much stress is really on the frame vs the skewer - I have to take a closer look at that.

I usually pull with my 26inch hybrid. Although speed doesn't seem so much like an issue - once the trailer starts rolling it like to stay rolling - and I can easily sustain 16 or 17 on the flats. The real issue is my cheap schwinn trailer acts like a big canvas sail. Going into the wind on the back bay I can only hit about 13mph. Of course, going back with the wind in the sails I can easily hit 20 :D

I'm seriously ready to do this. The only "scheduled" event I have for the weekend is my son's tennis lesson at 3:30 on Sunday.

Nope, not me. I only have one bike, aluminum. And my wife pulls with a steel-framed Bianchi.

What kind of trailer? Can you get a kit to convert it so that it attaches via skewer?

This one. Not a bad trailer for my hybrid,,, but not sure its the best if I'm going to pull with a road bike. WOuld probably need one with a better profile like the one in the video.

I've seen a lot of the Schwinn trailers wobble back and forth on the trails, but mine seems to follow straight. I think it's because the wheels have real spokes instead of cheap plastic wheels. Somehow I found it on clearance at a local target. That was right when they discontinued them from the stores and made them online only. Anyway - I've been happy with it - it's definitely seen a few hundred miles and at least 20 nap-hours.

Okay - so the first time I tried to do West Fork to Cogswel Dam today, I got there, popped the hatch, and realized my front wheel was still sitting in the garage. This after carefully packing everything for me and the child plus trailer plus picnic. We had our picnic lunch right there at the trial head and went home. My soon to be four-year-old simply says "It's okay dad, everyone makes mistakes sometimes"... and then after about 5 minutes he says "but I'm still angry at you".

So we drove an hour home and got the front wheel plus an extra sweater for him and headed back. I don't know why so many people rated this trail a 1 on a scale of 10. It's definitely not a hard trail, but the way there is like 6 1/2 miles of false flat. I would have given it a 3 or something. Definitely threw me off pulling the trailer. The section from the campsite to the dam is absolutely brutal. It's pretty much straight up. I most definitely would NOT recommend trying to pull a trailer up there. I got about 3/4 of the way up - got off - tried to push - realized it was harder to push up than pedal - rested a bit, and then climbed the rest of the way. And by climb, I mean standing on the pedals the entire time, zig-zagging up the road willing each foot to move forward each rotation. A beautiful view, but other than that not much to do when you're finally up there. I won't be doing this one again. I might take my son up there in the summer to hike and play in the river, but not for a ride.

Ouch, sorry to hear the section to the dam was so steep. I hope the false flat section was enjoyable though. You are THE BEST DAD for going back to get your front wheel, though. That's some dedication right there! :thumb:


We ended up pulling the Burley from Laguna Hills to a playground near the Spectrum. It was pretty cool and breezy here in OC. The dry air caused my asthma to flare up though. When we arrive home I took a long nap. First relaxing Saturday I've had in a month!

What no thread for this weekend? I am going to try and do a short hard mountain bike ride on Saturday and a longer-ish road ride on Sunday. All localy around devore/fontana/lytle creek.
