What a GREAT DAY I had!
I wasn't sure if I wanted to go to the bike races, but I figured, what the heck! I grabbed my camera and headed out to Montrose Harbor this morning. I got there about 10:30am, and heck if I didn't see Marcus from Yojimbo's Garage (the owner) riding for Triple X! So I knew Nicole, his girlfriend wouldn't be far behind, so I roamed around while I took pictures. I also ran into some friends I hadn't seen in YEARS... complaining loudly because there wasn't a category for them, since they were at least 55 years old (oldest being 67), but we were all laughing anyway and had a great time. I also ran into people I've seen from local races. By now, we at least know each other by sight, and it was funny to go running up to someone you'd seen from a past race and catch up on things. I guess I am a race rat by now or something. I really had fun talking to the spectators and cheering on every person that raced.
I have to say, I was really surprised to see the race. I had no idea Montrose Harbor was that big, and the race was all through the mud and dirt, and it also had a few barriers to jump. They had several different categories, and I stayed and watched all of them. It was totally cold, even though the day didn't start out cold, but as the clouds came, it became really cold, and the winds picked up. Youch! I felt for every one of those brave souls that rode that race! Then again, I felt for everyone there, since even the folks on the sidelines braved some cold weather to cheer on the racers.
A guy from Chicago Cross Cup championship (http://www.chicrosscup.com/mhrno4.pdf) came up and asked me what I planned to do with all the pictures I took (about 500 in total). I was like "I dunno, I just take pictures of the events and hold onto them and pass out pictures to people I know that were in the race", so he told me that if I wanted, I could either link my pictures from the website I planned on displaying my pictures from, or I could upload my pictures on his website. I will definitely get my pictures uploaded and on bikeforums as soon as I can- just need to go through them first and make sure they're all cleaned up and stuff.
I thought it was such a great day at the races! I totally had so much fun, made a few new friends along the way, hooked up with some old friends I'd lost touch with, and got an opportunity to see friends racing in action. Did I mention that I had a great day yet? ;)
