Cyclocross - Calling all 2010 Ridley Crossbow (NA08) owners!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi all, I'm kinda new to this forum. I got myself a 2010 Ridley Crossbow quite some time back because of the nice fit and reviews I read.

On Ridley's website, it was stated that the Crossbow had mounting points for racks and fenders. However, during my purchase, the guy at the store told me that it was probably a mistake on the website as the ones they were selling didn't have any mounting points. I verified this against the close up shots of the bike on bikeradar's review

and some other websites

However as I was surfing through the "Show us your cross bike" thread, I noticed that there were those who were lucky to have the rack mounts on their seat stays, for example in migman's photo

and another I found off the net

So I would like to check with the other owners, does yours come with the mounting points, and if they do, were they custom braze ons or did they come with the bike when you bought it?

Does it really matter? Just get one of those seat post binders with rack eyelets, or use a rack that mounts to the canti studs or to the arch between the stays. I see two eyelets at the dropout, and really that's all you need.

You wanted a cross race bike, , bought a good one.. now you want a commuter?
N+1 is the solution , shop for the next one around having rack mounts.

You could buy a large British Saddle bag to mount on their special carrier
SQL, a [metal] seatpost, Bagman off the saddle rails [I wouldn't use a carbon rail saddle for that].

Or a Beam rack you can fit and remove, off the Metal seatpost. there are bags to hang off those.

I don't know the answer, but Ridley has offered custom details before. The Super Cross could be ordered with water bottle mounts for example.

Oh, also a rack on a Crossbow? So wrong.

Sorry but when I got out to buy the Crossbow (yes its a darn sleek ride), I wanted a do-it-all bike. I want to know that I have the options of mounting a rack when I want to go on light touring. The feeling of getting the bike thinking it would have options, then ending up without (like the lack of the mounting points) then finding out that there are others who did, that kinda sucks.

Its like heading out to get the iPhone 4S, then returning and find that yours doesn't have SIRI while the others do. Not that SIRI is important, but yeah it sucks knowing yours is one of those that doesn't have it.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation on the alternatives. I would still like to know from the other owners how they got theirs with the rack/fender mount on their frames. ;)

It's not ridely, but same thing happens to Kona, 2011 model of Jake the Snake. Japanese model has eyelet, but American version didn't have it.

I suggest asking the retailer to contact the company if the bike really has eyelet or not. Although it's too late.
