Introductions - Getting back into IT!!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm sure this story is familiar to all of you...
I used to ride a bunch as a teenager and into my mid-20's. I was putting in 20 mile days back then with an old Ross 10 speed that I had customized over the span of ten years. Then...I got married...kids...job...and the bike literally disappeared. I have no iota of a clue where it went.
Now...I'm back. About a month ago, I went bike crazy, purchasing four bikes for my wife and myself. Two vintage mountain bikes (a fuji yukon and a Trek 800), and two newer bikes (specialized rockhopper, schwinn sporterra)...one each for my wife and myself...
My wife also has a vintage 1981 Schwinn World Sport, while on the bottom end at the time...has a great feel now.
What was I lacking? A ROAD BIKE!
So the quest continues...with your help...looking for a vintage bike...but more on that later!
Good to be here!

Can't forget the kiddos...
they both just learned how to ride (which is the likely connection to me), and they got new bikes as well...two vintage schwinn stingrays (need a bit of work), complete with the banana seats (like I had as a kid), and then two newer schwinns.
Yeah...quite a lot of money for a lowly teacher like myself...but you know how it is...

Howdy pojorisin,
Welcome to Bike Forums.
Family riding is so fun.
BF is both information and entertainment.
Have fun here. Post some pics of the family with the bikes sometime.

Well...eight months ago I weighed myself and I was 293 pounds...
yeah...what you're thinking is a hundred times less than what I was thinking when I saw that.
I immediately changed my diet to three squares a day (with three mini-meals in between) that weren't necessarily healthier, but much...muCH...MUCH less. You know...one helping instead of ten.
I also immediately started walking. Started with a half mile...then a mile...then a mile and a half...up to three.
The weight started melting off.
In three months, I was down to 250 lbs. That's when I started running. I'd run a half mile at first...then walk a mile two and half...then a mile...and walk two...
Today...I'm running a 5 K a day, walking an extra mile...in the morning...
and I take a mountain bike pass 5-7 every other evening (each week I alternate...run every day...bike every other...bike every day...walk every other)
Now...I want to work road biking back in...my true love..
Today...I weigh 213 1/2 pounds...
Can't wait to get a road bike...

Wow....awesome weight loss.
My son and daughter weigh a combined 100 pounds. I tell my wife daily that I've now given birth...to an eight and a six year old...
;)
She...of course...begs to differ (and I don't blame her)...
