Touring - A Good Wireless Cycle Computer needed.

Can anyone recommend a good wireless computer. Simple is better for me. I only want mph/trip meter/ and total trip .

Note the similarities in the display and features! I think it's the same electronics only $10 cheaper. The only difference seem to be that the Nashbar has a back light and the Ascent does not, oh and the case is different.

I don't know if they've fixed it, but on mine there's one problem. It has a cumulative max speed feature that shows the maximum speed you've obtained since the last time you reset it. Sometimes it glitches and shows a ridiculous speed like 88mph. It's not a feature I use so it doesn't bother me. Otherwise, I like it much better than my CatEye wireless. I really miss the scan feature when I'm riding my bike with the CatEye. I might have to pick up the Ascent.

I was thinking about just getting the replacement for my Sigma Sport Targa that I bought in 2000; I'm seeing comments that Sigma is crap and the mark-up is high. So I'm leaning stronger in the direction of the DB 4LW.

I've used the Cateye Cordless 7 for a few years now. It's simple, and it works well.

I have the Performance Axiom 8W wireless...always worked fine for me. I'm not sure if they still make it.

I can vouch for the Cateye Cordless computer as well. I've had it for a few years and never have had ANY problems. It's simple to set up and use. Now that Cateye has come out with a new model, you get can the old Cateye Cordless 7 for much cheaper than you would have last year.

This can be your comp's signal pickup going haywire because of outside interference. I don't know which devices / circumstances might interfere with wireless bike comp, but I do know it happens.

I don't think it's a problem. My wireless computer instructions state that if my max speed is 76.? or something ridiculous like that, it's because I've gone through a magnetic field which the computer picks up. Sounds like the computers operate on a similar frequency to automatic doors or something. It always happens when I pass into the parking garage at work or the passkey station.

I'm glad to know that it's not just my Performance/Nashbar/Supergo db 4wl cheapo wireless.

If anyone is wondering about it, LOML and I have 4 between us. They all work fine except maybe 1. I seem to have to change the remote battery more frequently than on the other ones. But I suppose every 6 months isn't so bad. Other than that, the connection to the handlebar is pretty good and infinitely adjustable, though a bit flimsy compared to an old wired Avocet I have from years ago. Still, haven't had any problems with this part of it. We've bought them for $16 to $20.

By the way, Nashbar and Supergo sell the same thing, often cheaper. In fact, the "old model" is on sale for at Supergo $13 right now, and one with a HRM is only $22! The "new models" are about double, but if one waits long enough, the will probably go to 1/2 of MSRP. Features are the same on new and old from what I can tell.

I don't think they're waterproof, which might be a concern since we're in the Touring Forum. I have been in rain with them with no problems. Not a drenching, but pretty wet.

I also use the Cateye cordless 7, not one ounce of trouble in 2 years. Every once in a while i'll get eroneous readings mainly due to high power transmision lines or truckers with those high power CB linears that pass us. The batteries so far haven't been replaced. I sure like the fact I dont have those wires. :)
