Not sure if this is the right forum but its the closest i could find. Ok i finally got my Abus Granit X-Plus 54 300mm but the bottom is kind of scratched up. Do you think this is used or just normal wear and tear maybe? As far as I can tell its just cosmetic though the lock seems to be a bit stiff but that can be solved just lubing it a bit. I took some pics but they dont really show up well in the pic. but theyre mostly small marks and the marks are just on the plastic shell.

With the weight of these locks, they have such an inertia that they can shift and knock each other in any container they may be put in. You are likely to get far more serious scuffs, than you describe, the first time you drop your lock. You will get scuffs when trying to maneuver the lock in and out on a crowded rack. These locks are meant to survive such and worse abuse. I would not spend time thinking about these scratches.

yeah thats what i decided. even if theres some scuffs i love the lock  hm any advice on how to lube it so it doesnt stick as much or so stiff? a couple drops in key, and a few in each end or spray a decent amount in each opening?

I had bad experience with graphite that in my case has choked the lock completely - after first despair, I spent much time washing it out with a light oil. For lubing light oil could be too runny and not last long there. I had a good experience with Boeshield T9 there.

cool. i was thinking bike lube would be good and was thinking progold or something along those lines which includes boeshield :) hmm im guessing for a beginner/low skills a squeeze bottle better than a spray for now?

Delivery with a squeeze bottle is usually more precise.

Abus makes a very good lock lube that doesn't gum up locks. A can of it should last you a very long time.

In my experience Abus has the best locking mechanisms in the bike world, and require very little maintenance. They especially shine in wet weather.

They sent me a can of PS88, so that's what they recommend for bike locks. I have no idea if they make another.
