Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Singed the papers for the big "D" yesterday! Getting off relatively cheap in a community property state and emotionally un-scarred. We got past the finger pointing and nasty stuff and decided to just be adults and do our own settlements without lawyers. Still on track to retire on time and pay off house before then.
And as a bonus, during the whole process, ran into old friend that I hadn't seen in a couple of years who last I knew was engaged to someone. Filled each other in on the details of our lives, went out once and have been stuck like glue to each other ever since!
No rebound relationship issues for those who are thinking it. :). The big "D" was a long time coming so I went way past all the stereo typical post break up crap.
Happy Happy Joy Joy!. 2011 will end up not sucking near as bad as the year started out!

That's nice when everyone can walk away with all the bullets in their guns.

But it's not as entertaining for the uninvolved spectator...
And I just can't pass up the chance to post this:

Congratulations on moving onward and upward. :) As someone who went through this, said exactly the same things and married again a little over a year later I totally get your statement. I also have to tell you, though, that there will still be some healing and such that takes place even though you were "out of the marriage" for so long. Just be open and honest about what is going on, and hopefully the person will understand.

Congrats! My divorce was quite painless as well. It's best to act like adults in such situations, they can get quite nasty.

A civilized divorce may be the highest art form on this planet.
But don't be surprised if you go through changes anyway. It's normal.
Did you really singe the papers? It's tempting.

It is good to know that there is life, a good life, after divorce.
After raising four kids my wife (well, I can't even call her that she really has not been much of a wife over the past few years and she certainly has not been "mine") are headed towards the big D as well. Like you, this has been a long time coming.
After years of feeling trapped, I look forward to what will be my new life.
That was smart of you to avoid the lawyers. I am a lawyer (not a divorce lawyer, even lawyers don't like divorce lawyers) and when a client walk through the door withe a dispute he wants settled I always counsel him/her to try doing it without getting the land sharks involved.
Good luck to you, your post was inspirational. :)
Divorce #3 was the best thing I ever did. Divorced #2 lost its merits due to re-marrying same girl which of course resulted in D3... duh! D1 was just the natural curse of events taking place... 17 year old's should never be allowed to get married.
and congratz on the new squeeze.
