Rigid MTB Vs. an CX bike...
What can you do, what cant you do?
Downhill controll?
Climb better/worse?
Harder on body?
Sum it up all for me please!
Im rideing mostly fireroads and singletrack, no drops or other crazy stuf.
I seen other people on my trails on CX rigs so I'm gussing it cant be that bad.
Thanks, X-Zen

Downhill controll?
Advantage - MTB. The geometry is designed to be steadier on rougher roads, going downhill, especially steep downhill.
Climb better/worse?
Probably MTB. Though different CX bikes have different gearing, MTBs are typically geared lower for better climbing.
Harder on body?
Hmm... that's a toughie. I'd say CX is probably a little better in this regard b/c of the handlebars. By shifting hand positions, this is better for your hand, back, etc., especially considering you're talking about a hardtail.
Sum it up all for me please!
The ultimate trade-off is speed vs stability. Either bike will work, but a CX will be faster, but somewhat less stable. A MTB is designed first and foremost for stability and climbing ability, speed is secondary. If you won't be riding on pavement at all, I'd say go with MTB. If you'll be doing any pavement riding, I'd go CX. Hope this was helpful.
