Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 1988 or 1989 Carbonframes/calfee sapphire 52cm bike. looking for info???

I just picked up a carbon frames sapphire road bike 52cm in great condition
it was raced in the iron man comp in hawaii. i know because the iron man designation
gold sicker is glued on the front of the bike. im thinking about selling it but have no idea on value. all carbon with Dean titanium stem and seat post. it has a mix of components from campagnolo to suntour. it rides on campagnolo hubs with mavic GL228 rims.

Any Ideas?

52cm? How did you get that measurement? Looks more like a 55-56 to me. Also, the front wheel is on backwards...

Thats a really cool looking bike. Yeah, looks bigger than 52cm. How can you tell from that picture that the front wheel is on backwards? I know that people will put the quickrelease on the non-drive side but youcan't see it in this picture. How do you know? I really want to know what your looking at to be able to tell that it's backwards.

Sure you can, it's right there pointed backwards. And to verify that the wheel is in fact backwards, not just the skewer, read "MAVIC" on the rim. See how it's backwards? Rims are oriented so they can be read from the driveside.

Not that any of this matters. It's just a matter of style and tradition.

Yeah, the part about the levers and crank arm was a joke. I don't know why but I can't see the quick release. I also can't see the levers but I bet everyone else can, huh? You know, for the past couple of days, everything on my computer screen seems like it has been a little bigger, like when it's in safe mode. Guys, I think my computer is screwed up.

Edit: Fixed it, I guess sometime you have to make an ass of yourself to know that you're looking at everything with the zoom set to 125%. Sorry. And you levers look perfect.
Your wheels on backwards.

Nice bike. Craig Calfee still builds essentially the same frame here in Santa Cruz, now under his name (Calfee). These are some if the earliest carbon frames used in TdF (by Lemond). As for value, unfortunately those looking for carbon frames don't seem to appreciate C&V.

Nice looking bike. I recently bought a Carbonframes frame. I believe mine is an 1989 which was the first year Craig Calfee began making these bikes. My serial number is SA0049. What number is yours?

The frames typically go for approx 200-400 on eBay.

OK. I need to remeasure the bike. its not 52cm and yep the front wheel was on backwards. also im new to vintage. im pulling away from carbon to more oldschool bikes. what you guys think of bullhorns. i have a new pair of cinelli L.A.84 bullhorns and tempted to put them on. i ride about 6 miles each way to work and home. I have see pic and they look cool but how are they for confort. ??????????

Try it and see. I'm planning on putting bullhorns on my singlespeed/fixed gear this winter. All you have to redo is the bar tape and the brake lever situation.

Nice. tried the bullhorns and loved them for short trips they are nice. i tried on a 30 mile run and mmmm not so nice. think i will put those on my Schwinn ONtare.

went on the calfee designs website and yep you are correct. the frame is still sold under the Tetra Pro name now and wooooow it sells frame only
$2300 and complete for over 5k. mmmm im keeping this bike i will just tranfer all my Dura Ace 7400 groupset from my schwinn and ride this. thanks for all the info. I was going to sell it for $500.00 what a mistake.

NOw like most of you i will own more than 1 bike.
