i have heard that pop tarts are good sources of energy short and long term. is this true? i find it hard to believe because the topping is pure sugar, and this is good for immeadiate energy, but will eventually lead to a energy crash. or is it the pop tarts without the topping that are good sources of energy?

I'm sure they are fairly high on partially hyd. fats and saturated fats. but i can't check the ingredients since i don't eat crap like that :D

Crap food. Don't eat 'em.

I ate them on a recent long ride. I didn't bonk.

so it seems to me that they worked pretty well for me. plus, they're cheap, which is good when you are going through your saddlebag on a ride thats 40 miles longer then it should have been, and all you find is some random change that somehow amounts to 85 cents. 480 calories for $.79 at a gas station is pretty decent.

I wouldn't eat them while not riding, however, I wouldn't hesistate to take some on another long ride.

Fairly high, indeed. I have some cousins who eat them all the time. If I'm tempted, I just look at the ingredients and I forget about em.

well, here's the info for pop tarts: remeber, there's two in a pack, though.

for a powerbar, its 230 calories, 2.5g fat, .5g sat fat, 0g trans fat. 45g of carbs, 3g fiber, 20g sugar, 22g of "other carbs" 9g protien.

obviously, the powerbar will be better for you, but a pop tart is a pretty darn good substitute while riding.

But remember the kids in the commercials who had their lockers full to the top with the Pop Tarts that mom gave them when they went to school?

The lesson?

"Got my Toaster Strudel?"

Just figure out how to use those watts to run the toaster oven.
