Might be moving to California this coming summer depending on a few things. I'm on the wall right now because it is bit of short notice but sounds like it is what I need to do. Opinions?

Why would you be moving there?

I'm not exactly sure where. The person I'd be moving in with is in Santa Monica. More than likely it will be somewhere else but still the general vicinity of the state. I used to live in CA it has just been forever and a different location. One of the major things that will play a part of moving is at that time I'd only have one more semester left to finish what I'm doing and I don't know how big of a pain it would be to pick up where I left off.
Yes... I'm moving... in 2 weeks. Destination: 2 blocks east of here. I could probably move mah stuff over with a hand truck.

Bring about 20 billion dollars and give it to the state so it can live another year. Welcome to the Peoples Republic of the Left Coast.

Will your new location be closer to the country club?

I've made this pretty clear that I don't want to move until I finish but I'm not sure if it is a choice or not at this point. It is basically move then or never and it is really hard to weigh the options asides the fact from the school aspect. My gut says do it, but there are so many things I need to tie up if I were to leave.

Why do you say that you are not sure if it's a choice or not. You are a grown adult. You can make your OWN choices, on your own.
if you haven't already, get all your current school info in front of you (ie, where you'd be at assuming you pass any classes currently being taken for Fall 2011) and make a few phone calls to schools you'd be likely to transfer to. It may not be such a big deal at all. But you'll be able to make a better decision if you have more concrete info.
OTOH, unless there is some compelling personal or financial reason for moving right away, if it's only one more semester, I'd try to stay put and finish that up first. Good luck with whatever you decide!
Most schools will require at least a year before they will award a degree. May have to repeat or take additional courses. They don't really want to place their name on your diploma if to take 3 1/2 years elsewhere, then come there for the final semester.

Stopping school now when you have the momentum and so little to finish is foolish. Starting up again and finishing the degree elsewhere will be harder than you imagine. Not finishing the degree will be a lifelong pain. My take is that you should need an amazingly strong reason to deviate from your plan at this point.
But since you would be at someone else's house, it sounds similar to a situation I faced last spring. My niece wanted me to move out to Phoenix and live in a house that she and her husband owned, no rent. It wasn't in my original plans but it was a tempting offer and pushing me off my original plans. I did A LOT of research. But what was happening here seemed to drag on, and I couldn't get out of it, and my plans kept getting delayed. Eventually I decided that Phoenix was not in my future. Shortly after I decided that, my niece had to move back to Phoenix, so that would have been a strange situation.
But even if that opportunity has gone, there's always another way to get there if I decide to go. If you have a plan and a path, don't get distracted. That's my opinion.

Well the thing is if I don't move in the summer I probably won't be able to for a while and might end up not moving all together. I'm trying to take this as an opportunity to start something new and get out of this dead end place. I'm still doing some information gathering and most signs point to yes except for this school situation and one other thing.

One thing you should factor in is the cost of going to school in CA if you want to finish your degree. Tuition has skyrocketed (even at community colleges) because of the CA budget issues.
Can you take winter courses or summer school to finish your degree before you move?

good point. Probably a required duration for residency to get in-state tuition?
Are you moving for the ski resort seasonal job in your other thread?
Finish school first.
And if the "one other thing" is a person, finish school first.

this....more than I can say....this!
Bad business climate, high taxes. Sure, why not?
Nice weather...
any person who is worthwhile will still be there in a year.

Haha, ya right, no love here. Other thing is some stuff. Not the ski resort thing either. The time period is just an opportunity I have that won't always be there. The last course I don't think I can take over the summer because of the rapid pace. However my certification is for my home state. To be in California I think I have to take a test to be certified there. This is a mess.

of course, some not worthwhile will still be there in a year....hell, I've been in Foo since 2007 or so.

After some thinking, I think I am going a different route. Finish school and book it to the east coast.

Everyone knows that you should end up somewhere in the middle, like Colorado.
BTW, good choice on finishing school.
