I read on someone's tag line on a BF post that hill climbing is a lot like sex; the better you get at it, the more you want to do it. After climbing my favorite hill this morning, I'd add to that just by saying "and the older you are, the longer it takes."

And, I have heard, that somedays you just can't climb that hill until one takes a blue energy pill (but, I wouldn't know about that).

At our age, isn't the mantra supposed to be: Sex is overrated?

Hillclmibing? Well, that's another matter entirely. Machka and I have just finished a 200km randonnee on the tandem that had a 13km climb averaging between 4 and 5% (a rail-trail, but an unusually steep one). It came just under 100 miles into the randonnee. We put into practice all the requisite skills and techniques, and had a ball...

We've signed up for the 7 Peaks Challenge that takes in the seven highest mountain climbs here in Victoria, Australia. It's run between 1 November and 31 March. Average grades run between 4 and 13% and distances from 6 to around 45km.

We'll be doing the challenge on singles. The prize draw at the end includes an all-expenses paid trip to the Tour de France (but we aren't doing it for that reason).

We've also got a 300km randonnee in a fortnight that includes one particularly tough climb that I have yet to ride up entirely on three different attempts.

So we are looking forward to a season of climbing.

I thought it was;"You don't get those thoughts anymore, Dear".

Sorry... thought someone had figured how to do both things at the same time.

Carry on.

Great reply. Made me laugh out loud which woke the wife. I gave her a suggestion. She told me to 'go ride a bike'.

While climbing especially challanging hills strangers often shout out words of encouragement and offer compliments when I get to the top, not so much for the other though...

Another thing, I can climb as many hills as I want to whenever I want to....
a different hill evey day or several a day if I'm physically up to the challange.

.....Just sayin'. :innocent:

If I get a flat tire on my bike, it's fixed in about 5 minutes. ;)

What, you don't keep a CO2 cartridge, a patch kit, and a Tyvek boot in the nightstand drawer by your bed?

Climbs to me have nothing to do with sex but everything to do with meditation--because you are not going so fast and you are trying to ignore the pain--there is a certain rhythm with the pedals and the momentum particularly when off the seat.

Yes a little slower today--but still going with great enjoyment! Besides I have no choice because there is no really flat roads around here!

That would be the refractory period.

refractory period
—n a period during which a nerve or muscle is incapable of responding to stimulation, esp immediately following a previous stimulation. In an absolute refractory period there is a total inability to respond; in an effectiveorrelative refractory period there is a response to very large stimuli

Climbing a hill makes you sound like you're having sex. :p:D

Here's one of my climbing videos that was recorded with a camera with a more sensitive microphone (NSFW due to heavy breathing). Because of complaints from those with no sense of humor, I now use a ContourHD, which has audio low enough that the viewer has to make a conscious effort to hear what the humor-impaired refer to as "porno breathing".

Damn! I bet it was good stuff too! :D

I'm a female cyclist, and a male friend of mine suggested playing my video and a male cyclist's climbing video at the same time. I did that and just about fell out of my chair laughing! You can imagine what that sounded like! :roflmao2:

The guy who organized the Mt Lemmon ride suggested making it an annual event. In line with this thread, "Same Time, Next Year" (after the Alan Alda movie) :D

Depends on if you took the right pill ...
