Looking for winter riding shoes for my mtn bike that has SPD clipless pedals. I wont be able to afford actual winter riding shoes yet and all I can spend is $75 on the shoes.

Soooo.... I looked at all my LBS and not many shoes to pick from and all were in the 100 plus range. I have large feet, wear a size 15.

Any recomendations on a shoe that fits the budget? Or any web sites?

You'll probably end up getting some kind of shoe covers,
most shoes have vents. Good for ventilation in the summer,
not so good when it's cold :D

Size 15 (49/50) are hard to come by, but this is what I've found so far:

For winter use, I take a 8x8 piece of Saran Wrap and wrap it around my wool socks before inserting into the shoe, cheap wind protection, and wool keeps my feet warm.

I'm sure this isn't what you, or other posters, want to read, but there's an easy solution - platform pedals and hiking boots in winter. The poster iforgetmename has a couple videos of his riding in snowy Cleveland, OH, if you want to see an example.

I will be switching to platforms and boots when snow hits or rain since I will not be able to afford the Lake Boots with clips.

Looking for a mtn bike shoes to fit the SPD deals on the mtn bike.

For $75 you might have a tough time with winter shoes, but that's more than enough for a pair of polypro sock liners, a good pair of lightweight wool socks, and some nice shoe covers. I'm partial to the Gore Bike Wear covers, Pearl Izumi makes a really awesome neon yellow insulated pair. I looked at a pair of Garneau insulated covers, but there were no zips or velcro on the cover, just on the stirrup bottom (which was the only base to them, so I doubt their actual insulating properties.) I guess you put these on like an open bottom sock, then your shoes, then slip the toe-cover portion around the shoe and fasten the stirrup. Weird.

Search eBay for the Lake LX140, they are $48 shipped. I have the BOA version (MX140) and they are superb - get them a size large if you can so that you can wear big wool socks.
