Hello folks, you may know that I'm looking for a more relaxed bike to ride in the neighborhood and I was looking for a Schwinn Suburban originally. I found a Schwinn World Tourist in very nice shape (pic attached) and the seller says it has lugged frame. I thought all Schwinns with the exception of the Paramounts were welded frames. Anyway, if any Schwinn fan could educate me, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :thumb:

Lugged, Made by Giant IIRC. Should also have the front freewheel system. It would make a great around town bike.

Lugged, Hi-ten frame and fork. It's at or near the bottom of the Schwinn road bike model line-up. As Zach says, it has the Shimano Front Freewheel System.

Beginning in 1973, Schwinn began importing lugged frame road bikes from National/Panasonic in Japan under the "World" label, and in 1974 imported the first "Schwinn-Approved" Le Tour model labeled as a Schwinn. In the late seventies, Schwinn began building lugged Le Tours at the Chicago factory, and in the mid-to-late eighties produced a number of lugged frame models (Circuit, Premis, Prelude, Tempo) at its new Greenville, MS plant.

Thank you for the prompt feedback. I'll check it out and see the fit, I'm not sure if it is a 24 or 25" frame.

Personally I'd avoid anything with that Front Freewheel system. It works but if you need to change out the wheels or cranks you're pretty much stuck

Bah. The BB shell is standard so you can put a different bottom bracket in it. I think the freewheel threading is standard (I'll know for sure as soon as I swap the wheels out on my neighbor's bike.
You do sorta need a donor bike I guess.

And the correct freewheel remover (Shimano "boss"?), which also seems to be required to pull the FFS bottom bracket cups.

I pulled one out of the trash and the frame is rather hefty. Not sure I'll ever end up using it.

Agree. I owned a 1970s Ladies Frame Schwinn World "ten speed" bike bought used for almost 10 years. When the wheels & crank started to fail, I got rid of that bike as it was not worth it to fix it as I paid only 50 dollars for it. I did like the bike's characteristics and handling though.
