Hi all, I am looking for a pair of full-finger gloves that have good padding. I am now using Spenco Ironman gloves, which of several gloves I've tried seems to be the best, and would love something comparable that's a little warmer.

I do not want full-on winter gloves, but something for autumn and early spring. I don't really ride when it's too cold out, so I don't need something for below freezing- but more like the weather when tights, thicker socks and a wicking shirt under the jersey, or a light windbreaker will do.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Neal

How much padding? I often use softball/baseball gloves which have a bit of palm padding. You can get Easton ones at Target, which isn't that weird since it's the same Easton that makes bike stuff.

Another cheap option is Mechanix gloves or similar which also have a bit in the palms.

Thanks, IDC, I'll look into that next time I'm at Target, but I actually want a fair amount of padding, like the upper-level Spenco or Pearl Izumi gel gloves.

have a pair of spenco made full fingered gloves ,
they have padding on the heel of the palm,
for the carpal nerves into the wrist, but not under the knuckles,
presumably so the wrap around the bar is un impeded.

LBS had them , [quit buying them due to a double billing overcharge by spenco]
Bontrager/Trek brand seem OK.

Hi Fiets, do you mean there's padding in the lower palm- near the wrist- but not padding in the upper palm near the fingers?

Do you remember what model glove that was from Spenco?

thanks,

Neal

I really like this glove for riding since it's pig skin that get butter soft when broken in but is tough as nail if you go down.

Thanks, Nightshade, but for some reason - um, probably being a kosher-keeping vegetarian- pigskin, while I acknowledge its greatness as a glove material- just doesn't appeal to me. . . . :)

thanks

While I can appreciate your being a "kosher-keeping vegetarian" leather is still the best material for gloves and shoes/boots.

I really is a shame that you'll miss out on good leather gloves made from pig skin or deer skin.

Oh, no worries, I wear leather shoes all the time.

I'm not making any statement about leather of any kind, other than , as a purely personal and idiosyncratic reaction, all things being equal, I'd rather not wear pigskin around my hands.

@Fietsbob- thanks- yes, Spenco makes a glove called the cold snap, I'm going to try to find a pair.

Thank you all for your kind assistance.

Are you riding drop bars or flat bars?
For drop bars i like the PearlIzumi full fingers. (Velco wears out kinda quick, tho)
Flat bar i like my Fox ReflexGel full fingers. The Foxs really really suck on drop bars though. The gel is just too squishy and it just doesn't work out.

I like Garneau and Specialized. The pair of LGs I have is almost 4 years old and starting to finally wear out.

Thank you all so much for your help. I just ordered a pair of Spenco Heat Waves but the PI Cyclones look really good too- if the Spencos aren't up to speed I'll try the PI.

Thank you!

My go-to autumn gloves are an inexpensive pair of mechanic's gloves from home depot.

Try liner gloves under standard padded half-finger gloves.

I have a pair of Adidas gloves like that, with padding just near the wrist. Don't know if they still make them.
