Cyclist injured after act of ‘rage’

A CYCLIST was left with two broken ribs and heavy bruising after being attacked in a road rage incident.

The cyclist, who does not wish to be identified, said he was cycling along Sunset Rd in Kenmore on the morning of November 1 when he was cut off by a white delivery truck.

"When I shouted out in alarm the driver stopped and jumped out," he said.

"He then proceeded to verbally abuse me and tell me that I had no right to be on the road as I was too slow and that I had not paid registration fees.

"He also went on to proudly say that he had intentionally cut me off and that he does and will cut off any other cyclists that he comes across on the road."

Not to stereotype, but an old friend of mine currently lives in Melbourne with his long time GF. We both grew up in Wasilla, Alaska, and he tells me that most Australians are rednecks. And if anyone is an expert on rednecks, it's a 4.0 nerd from Wasilla (just sayin').

Australian drivers are pretty aggressive. Strange really since we're pretty laid back about most things. Must be a cager thing.

I'm totally dumbfounded on the cyclist's action of not pressing charges against the motorist.

People that use the term "redneck" should really look up the history on the term, and why it came into use.

Indooroopilly officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Richard Symes said they would be pursuing the matter but as the cyclist had declined to press charges they had limited options.

I'm not sure why he's not pressing charges. The way it is described, it's clearly at least assault and battery.

From memory (with no cheating via Wikipedia) I think it has something to do with sunburn on the necks of British soldiers.

Wikipedia says it is about sunburn on poor Southern farmers. However I'm sure I saw a South African reference to the British and rednecks somewhere (Boer War era).

Sad. I commuted to work in Brisbane for about 7 months when I lived there and never had any issues. One of my colleagues did as well - actually the MUP next to the river was a bit too heavily trafficked I thought. I was in Toowong, not far from Indooroopilly.

As for rednecks and Australians, I'd say it's similar to the USA. City dwellers tend to be far less "redneckky".

Good example of why Australians are rednecks is that they figure if you live in a place that gets rain all-year-round you can call it the "sunshine state" and people will believe it.

Road rage is rampant here too - classic redneck activity!

Deputy Brown said that the woman was murdered but because no-one was alive to press charges they had limited options. Oh Yeah!
