Classic & Vintage - Modern Production 650B low-trail bikes:

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's tough to find those 650B equipped, low-trail bicycles that people like to use for randonneuring.
The Kogswell P/R has been discontinued.
Velo-Orange has their Randonneur.
Outside of that, does anyone know of any affordable, non-custom 650 bees?
(Of course, there is also a whole series of old 80's Treks that fit the bill, too:
1976 TX300/500/700
1977 TX200/300/500/700
1978 510/710/910
1979 510/710/910
1980 412/414/510/710/910
1981 412/610
1982 311/410/412/610/613/614
1983 400/500/520/600/620/630/640
1984 400/420)

Affordable is relative. The two least expensive 650B production frames I know of are:
Rawland rSogn (http://www.rawlandcycles.com/store/index.php?strWebAction=item_detail&intItemID=3953)
Boulder All-Road (http://www.renehersebicycles.com/Randonneur%20bikes.htm)

The Rawland starts at size M.
I'd also like to put it at $1400 the Box Dog Bikes Pelican.

And the Velo-Orange Polyvalent at $550.

What's any of this got to do with riding Brevets?

What does your question have to do with available bikes in 650b?

You asked in your initial post for bikes people use for Randonneuring so I ask you Why something like a V-O polyvalent, especially outfitted with a big honkin porteur rack is appropriate for Brevet riding?
seems to me you're more interested in buzz words than Brevets.

Velo-Orange has their Randonneur.
Which is made for 622x28 tires.
And none of those Treks were made for 650B wheels. Your post is confusing.

Screw this. I forgot why I quit bikeforums.
Snarky criticism is tossed about like monkeys fling ****, when all I wanted were some helpful resources and a knowledge base.
I'm outta here for a long time, again.
Thanks for nothing. This is just the help I wanted after having my bike stolen.

You've got a helpful resource and a knowledge base. You just ask really stupid questions.
Go back to fleecing members for parts, you were better at that than you are at trying to sound smart.

You mean his mom spent the money he was going use for shipping your part also. LOL....

If these had rack mounts I'd be tempted to run one with a rigid fork on a randonee. Dragon 650 - $900

Heck, even without the rackmounts I'd still be tempted. I love rigid MTBs on long rides.

I think the problem is the face you're making in your photo. Just a guess.
This is a very awkward thread.

I'm almost sad I missed what I imagine was some previous banjo drama...

re: the topic.
imo, save the 650b for conversions. fatties fit fine on lots of newer 700c frames.

Let's see...comes back to bf after a long absence, has had a bike "stolen".......How many more replies until the inevitable request for "free" parts for the new "Banjo 650b project". Please help. Your charity is greatly appreciated. What a goof.

I contributed to a hogpile.
Sorry.
This is a very awkward thread.
Things came to a head so quickly, I'm left wondering whether Zaphod was acting deliberately or just being disagreeable.
Heck, the Polyvalent page at VO mentions the B-word, and I personally don't know any better on the subject, so it doesn't surprise me if anyone else got it wrong.

Banjo, whom I always regarded as a nice kid, must have stirred the pot somewhere behind the scenes.
Too bad it didn't remain back there.

His shipping was slow, but I did get some nice NR parts from him.

Would the Rivendell 650B bikes be considered affordable?

Dang, I can't even afford that $900 Jamis 650 frame. Rivendell Bombadil is on my dream bike list, however.

If this is your size, you're golden: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kogswell-650B-P-R-mkII-Frame-Last-Inventory-/190600987202?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c60b44242#ht_548wt_1398
Just need to contract a builder to make a fork for you. This Terraferma fork (http://www.flickr.com/photos/54057857@N07/6329055641/in/photostream/) is available for $250 + shipping. Looks like the steerer is long enough at 240mm. 1" threadless, so you'd need a headset that works with 1 1/8" head tube and 1" steerer.

Many of Soma's frames are designed to be 650B "friendly" (and they also make one dedicated 650B frame). Most of their frames are designed for 700c but many have enough clearances and brake bolt placement to allow long-reach brakes to work well with 650B wheels should someone decide to build them up that way, and this is something they mention in their frame descriptions. I built up a new Soma mixte frame around a 650B wheelset and 42mm Hetres and it came out great. Soma frames are also relatively inexpensive-- I got my wife's frame for $400, and it's all TIG-welded double-butted Tange Infinity chromoly.
Ok, this thread really isn't going anywhere productive, and it seems the OP has left the building. Thread closed.
