I've got a few Zefal HPx frame pumps, but no bikes with pump pegs. I know there's an ebay seller that has makeshift pump pegs similar to the Zefal one below. Well, since I've got several of the ubiquitous AFA umbrellas, I thought I'd try to mod one.

Ingredients:
AFA umbrella frame mount
M5 bolt
Locking M5 nut
Presta valve cap
A washer probably wouldn't hurt either, but I'm getting good "bite" with this setup.

As you can see, it puts the pump out a little bit further from the frame, but not too bad. The presta cap threads right on (don't overdo it).

That will not work with the smaller Zefal HP pumps that the OP is making reference to.

the umbrella clamp fits the HP. the head of the HPx is too large and requires a peg.

you are correct that the ziptie will not with with an HP, but it will with an HPx.

however, in the original post, i was referencing the HPx. since the umbrellas are easy to find, this might be an easy way to put an HPx on your frame's top tube or seat tube without having to use a pump peg or that special Zefal plastic mount above.

I did a different modification for my son's bike. We wanted to mount a pump under the top tube on his Cannondale, but the Zefal umbrella was designed for a 1-1/8" tube and couldn't reach around the oversize aluminum top tube. So I cut off the umbrella and brazed it to a muffler clamp and it worked like a champ. Alas, no pictures because the bike's in Seattle with him and I'm in Wisconsin.
