I am one of the organizers of the Hazon Cross USA Jewish Environmental Bike Ride. We are looking for more riders ... you don't have to be Jewish to join us. This is a 10-week ride from Seattle to Washington, DC. Riders may choose to have their gear carried in a van, or they may carry their gear. We also have a one-week ride from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC.
To cross the USA, join us from June 6th, 2012 to August 18th, 2012.

What if you don't have 10 weeks in the summer of 2012? Then join our ride in Minneapolis, Chicago, or Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh segment is one week long and covers the famous Great Allegheny Passage.
The ride is a fundraiser for environmental causes.
We are going to be eating vegetarian, kosher food only, and observing Shabbat. An important principle for us not only to show what can be done on a bicycle, but also to demonstrate that kosher food can be more sustainable and more healthy. Imagine how healthy you can be after 10 weeks of cycling and eating a healthy Hazon (http://www.hazon.org) diet.
We are also very inclusive ... all ages and all levels of Jewish observance from interfaith fellow traveler to observant and Orthodox will be welcome and will feel comfortable in our community of cross-USA riders!
Pittsburgh to Washington DC, August 9-17
8 Days, 5 Riding Days
From Pittsburgh we will be biking on the Great Allegheny Passage (GAP). This rail-trail offers 141 miles of biking between Pittsburgh and Cumberland, MD. Before we hit the end of GAP, will be spending Shabbat camping in Ohiopyle, home of Frank Lloyd Wright’s home Falling Waters. In Cumberland, the GAP joins the C&O Canal Towpath, creating a continuous trail experience, 325 miles long, to Washington, DC. After our closing ceremony, you may head home on Friday morning.
Can you help us pass the word ... call your Jewish friends (the ones who you have been trying to get onto a bike for years) and tell them about this ride. Yes, tell your friend Michael or Deborah that there are no more excuses ... it's time to get back in shape. See you in Pittsburgh!
