Hello to all and I hope to find an answer about a slight twinge I am feeling in the back of my knee. I have come to understand the theory that pain in the front of the knee is due to a low saddle height and pain in the back of the knee is due to a high saddle height. The pain I am feeling as said is more of a twinge rather than an ache. The formula I am using to adjust my saddle height is with my leg extended, the heel of my foot on the pedal at the bottom of the stroke. I am doing this with my cycling shoe on. Should I be doing this with my shoe off? Should I still try to lower my saddle a bit more? Please advise.

Not everyone is perfectly symmetrical, for example my left leg is longer than my right. Actually the hip is lower, etc. To compensate for this i point my left foot down and make my right foot level. To find out if u r all even, sit down with ur feet in front of u and have someone draw a line or mark where each foot is. Not saying this is ur problem just saying it could be something odd like this.
Then adjust ur fit, people do it all the time, a little up, a little down, foreward, back. Dial it in until ur happy.

most literature suggests a 25 to 30 degree bend in the knee at the downstroke. another thing which helped me was to make sure the contact point of the pedal was directly below the first metatarsal. i had my cleats positioned too far back (toward the heel) and that was killing my knee for the longest time.
