Has anybody here delivered food in nyc while on a bike? If so, how much did you make a day/night? And if you know of any place that pays well, please post it here

That seems very logical.
You make dirt if you're doing delivery. Unless you're lightening fast and can get to any part of NYC in 20 minutes, repeatedly.
IMO I think you'd be more comfortable working at a McDonald's.... and probably make the identical amount of money, with the exception of not having to worry about getting into accidents or rain slowing down your delivery performance.

Coming from a guy who tried being a bike courier for a week in the summer. It's hard work and not a lot of pay.

I would think depending on the place you could make some serious cash. Go to the most expensive restaurant that delivers that you can find and apply there. Try to find a place that has a smaller delivery area than others. Even if you were making the same money that you would at Mcdonald's, and I doubt that would be the case unless you sucked, wouldn't getting paid to ride your bike all day be infinitely more enjoyable than flipping burgers?

I worked as a messenger before. A delivery guy probably wouldn't be covering as much ground as a bike messenger. A guy I used to work with said that delivery guys make more than messengers because of the tips. It probably depends on the store that you work for, which is why I asked here to see if anyone knew of any good, fancy restaurants that use delivery guys.

i can see how a sandwich or something pretty sturdy (food wise) could be delivered via bike... but what about something delicate....?

As with anything else, it's all about the risks you take. If you ride defensively your chances of being in an accident are reduced.

He means that delivering food will probably get you robbed and/or shot. He wasn't talking about the dangers of being on the road

The D can get pretty bad. Drivers there either don't know how to drive properly, or they're all ********.

Bicycling in any city with motorvehicular traffic is like a roll of dice. At least in the America we have WIDE roads where you can bike along with the traffic. I biked London, Amsterdam and Barcelona. The streets in the old world cities are cramped and cyclists ride on the sidewalk. The drivers are not as aggressive however.

Oh I see. You could... theoretically, but I assume really fancy restaurants that use delivery service will use car delivery. That's also true for covering less ground. Won't be as tiring then.
As for tips... I suppose that's all on luck.
Otherwise I think you're stuck on Chinese food and pizza (Don't know, never really lived in NYC)

There are a couple of delis in Portland that have $10-15 sandwiches. Deliver enough of those to lawyers and traders @ lunch everyday and you should pull some nice tips.

Delivery by bicycle is becoming trendier so nicer places will use it.

Yes, we have pedicabs and they are a front for messengers to train in their off-hours. It is like Jedi school for them to be awesome messengers with fixies.
