Cyclocross - Bar tape?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What are you guys using for bar tape? I want something nice & thick, I've been double wrapping w/ foam tape, but that's almost too thick.

I use Salsa's gel cork tape (in orange). It wraps easily, has just enough padding, wears pretty well and doesn't stick to the bars when its time to re-tape.

Just did my first race with Cinelli "Gel!" tape. The last thing I was noticing was the bar tape, but at least I didn't notice anything bad about it. I have huge hands, so thicker tape seemed to be the way to go.

I have not done any Cyclocross, but the best tape I've found for all conditions is Lizard Skins.... It's not cheap but it's easy to wrap, unwrap, and rewrap and great when wet.

As soon as my Fizik Dual tape is done for (And I really like the feel of the tape!) http://www.fizik.it/product.aspx?c=Dual-Tape , I may try the lizard skins tape out since it also feels good.

I prefer the Deda Elementi Logo Tape for both my road an cyclocross bike, both bikes have the FSA K-Wing compact handlebars. The bartape is pretty cheap and has enough padding and grip for me.

My double wraps get the older tape as the base layer, newer on top.

I've been happy with my Lizard Skins DSP this season, although it did get a bit chewed up in some wipeouts. :(

the only problem I have with the lizard skin tape is that I feel like I need a second layer under it. It doesn't have much padding at all. Other than that, it is awesome stuff

Don't stretch it too much when you wrap it and it will have more cushion. Also, with each wrap cover half of the previous wrap, and it comes out good and thick.

Thats how I wrap bars. On my road bike, I have been using the Giant gel tape and I love it.

doesn't matter, as long as its white - that way, it shows everyone else that I'm serious about getting muddy....

Lizard Skins DSP really rules! I think they are the best, or some of the best you can finde... only bad thing about it could be durability.... not my case, but I have heard that from other riders.

I use the Specialized S-Wrap Cork stuff (http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCEqProduct.jsp?spid=64434) I can get a roll for ten bucks at my bike shop. It's nice and thick, and re-wraps pretty well. It's not too durable, it does tear, but it takes a while for it to fall apart from a scratch.
