Road Cycling - Trek geometry and other road bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm toying with the idea of buying a new road bike. My first choice, I think, is a Seven Axiom Ti, which I would build up with Ultegra. However it's quite pricey.

I can't seem to shake the idea of just buying a Trek 5200 and save myself roughly $1K. Yes, it's sort of boring - like buying the Honda Accord of bicycles... but it is light, stiff and a decent bang for the buck IMO. But does anyone know the geometry of the Trek for a 58cm frame? I know it's a "square" frame (top tube same length as the seat tube c to c), but how about angles? Trek just publishes that it is the "Trek Race Geometry" or something silly like that.

Other comments on other bicycles to consider? I'm partial to Ti. However, the LeMond is too flexy. Serotta too expensive unless you stick with steel. And I've heard mixed messages about Serotta's "fit kit" system, people who have done it and weren't happy with their "custom fit frame".

Thanks all for opinions!

They do publish the geometry on their website. Here it is:

Merlin and Litespeed are good quality Ti bikes, but lack the drool factor of a Seven. I think the Serotta fit system is the best one going, but it's still only as good as the person doing the setup. Any good bike shop may require you to set up an appointment, so they can have someone dedicated to working with you instead of answering phones and helping other customers, but special equipment probably isn't really necessary unless you have a really unusual build.

Don't buy without a test ride, and happy hunting!

Cat2,

You should really check out Serotta's forum ( HERE (http://www.hydromedia.com/phorum/list.php?f=3) ) and do a search on fit, or size cycle.
As previously stated its the fitter not the system which
will make all the difference. I would suggest you
look into Serotta frames they are really nice.
hope this helps,

Marty

I drooled over my Litespeed for 6 months before I was able to buy it and I'm glad I got it.
