After 15 years away, I am back in Minnesota. It has been a long time since I last rode in the snow. Today we had the first flakes of the season. I have set up an old Trek 930 with studded tires, and a Haro Mary with WTB Weirwolfs for winter riding. The Trek for the icy conditions and the Haro for the fresh snow. Today I tested both out. It was better conditions for the Haro. The Trek did terrible on the braking side. I know it won't perform as well as the Haro which has BB7 discs, but it had almost no stopping power. The pads are older, so it would be good to replace them. What rim brake pad is recommended for winter / wet riding? The Trek has cantilevers if that matters.

I have been in the desert of Arizona previous to this, so have not had much wet weather riding in the recent past.

I'd recommend koolstop salmon or BBB triple compound pads.

+1 the the koolstop salmons work better than any I've tried. They are pretty cheap and easy to set up.

Whoa, a bit late to the party, but yeah, Koolstop Salmon was the right thing to order. I start having dreams of moving to AZ this time of year. What brought you back??

There's another? :-) Nope, just a Twin Cities' resident biking from Shoreview to Bloomington and back when possible. This morning's commute got to be rather long, with all the crap in the streets. I'm missing July already...

Must be someone else with that name for a blog title, or something similar. Just thought it might be the same person. That sounds like a challenging commute in the winter months. I commuted through the winter back in the 80's while in college. Now my office is in my home, so no commute, but still looking forward to doing some winter riding.
