Hi, singlespeed newb here: I'm checking out this 61cm San Jose probably later this week—specs are:

- 2006
- "Very good condition".
- "Maybe 800 miles"
- all components stock except handlebars

Is this a good/accurate deal? Any suggestions on what to look for or ask about?

THANKS!

well, the san jose retails at most around $700. and if you buy it from a bike shop they're obviously willing to work with you and go lower on the price. throw in the fact that the bike is over 5 years old and has almost 1000 miles on it (probably more).

its definitely overpriced.

Lowball the **** out of it and then take it for a reasonable price. Requires level 5 haggling.

Great. Was wondering if it was overpriced considering my LBS is selling a 2011 for $650.

Thanks for the advice!

I bought my San Jose new in 2006 for $550.

How do you like it, coldslabs?

I like it a lot and ride it (on the road exclusively) while often neglecting my geared bike. It is relaxed without feeling sluggish. Since I don't race it I couldn't comment on its abilities as an actual cross bike though.

The stock parts are pretty low quality. I have replaced everything over five years but the brakes, brake levers, frame and fork (after using them up or breaking them outright).

Way too much. They don't make them anymore but that's too much. Last year there was a shop on eBay that was blowing them out for $450 brand new with free shipping.
