Two seasons in and I felt that I should showcase my TCX and let me people know of my experience with Giant, SRAM, Paul, and the rest of the components. I'm in my second season of 'cross racing, with some good top 10 finishes in C this year, and the bike has been nothing short of reliable, infallible even.

Built last fall, I was hoping for the best with my choice of components as my budget is non-existent and replacements or upgrades would not be possible, heck they still are the stuff dreams are made. Fortunately nothing so far has needed to be replaced or upgraded.

The SRAM group has been excellent, this year I went to a single ring front, and thrown chains are a thing of seasons past. Paul Component brakes front and rear, again, perfect in nearly all conditions. The Time ATAC XS pedals, also rad. They never seem to get too clogged to clip me in, and I have them dialed perfectly for dismounts.

The one upgrade I did make was move from an older set of Mavic Ksyriums to HED C2 rims laced to DT Swiss Hubs. I was immediately blown away by the quality of the bearings, spin spin spin spin, and the stability the wider track C2s provided.

So if you're thinking about going racing, and thinking about having only one bike to train, race, and then ride on the road the other 8 months of the year, do consider a TCX. It has been my only bike, and two race seasons and one long off season of training on the road have passed, and thankfully, and happily, there have been zero issues to date.

Great looking bike. Why is it clean though?

Looks like a great bike - but how does that single ring up front work out for the other "8 months"??

Bike looks great. Glad you've had good luck with it. What size chainring are you using? I've been having a hard time with my SRAM FD and dropping chains so I've been thinking about doing the same thing.

Nice ride. The TCX seems to be really popular around here and there's been a few in the last races I've attended; there was even a raffle for a frameset at the most recent.

I'm on basically a budget version of what you're riding. '08 TCX frame on old Fulcrum 7's with a SRAM S300 crank (single chainring with bash guard), Rival shifters and an Apex derailleur in the rear moving the chain over an 11-32 cassette. Better bike than I am a cyclist. Would have liked disc brakes but I've never lost a race because I was going too fast.

Thanks! That photo was taken the night before race 1, so yeah, super clean for the first and last time this season.

In the off season, I run 53/39 up front and 28/11 on the rear. Cross season ends up just being the 39 front and 28/11 rear.
