General Cycling Discussion - Question about Trek Singletrack 930

If this is the wrong place please let me know where to put it.

I got this Trek singletrack 930 as a gift a while ago but now I want to sell it and have no clue what to ask for it. I don't know the year but here is all the Information I know and pics.

How much should I ask for this bike if I sell it? Do you know what year it is?

- Trek Singletrack 930
- 16.5" 42cm
- Tuned about 2 years ago from local bike shop and i've riden it maybe 3-5 miles since then.
- Garage stored until 4 months ago

Think thats this bike: http://www.bikepedia.com/quickbike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=1993&Brand=Trek&Model=930&Type=bike Doesnt have a pic or possibly its the 94 since those are the only ones without colors given and the others dont seem to fit that color scheme.

Thank you for the response. Do you know how much I should ask for the bike? I was going to list it for $50 but than I saw kids treks going for $100 so I know I gotta ask for more than that. I just wanna sell it quickly, but not "give it away".

I think it's a 1998. Bikepedia doesn't list black, but the vintage-trek.com site does list black with red and silver decals. And the parts match up better to the 1998 specs on bikepedia.

Around here probably $150. Some markets are better for MTBs, so maybe $200 in them.

Before selling, remove Ulock holder. Wash bike well. Spray WD-40 on all bolts to try getting rid of rust.

Thank you for the information :) I live in Washington D.C. so I don't know how big the MTB market is here but i'll probably list it for $175 OBO. I'll remove the Ulock holder and definitely clean it up before selling, good tip about the WD40 wouldn't have thought about that.

Also, Sram didn't start making derailleurs until the late '90s, I believe.

... and Trek was still using the short/wide sans-serif font logo in 1994. The serif font logo didn't hit 'til 1996.

I paid sixty bucks for my like-new 820 including a rack, paniers, a spare wheel with a street slick to use on the indoor-trainer that came with the bike. PO REALLY wanted to make a quick sale. I spent another 60 on an aluminum frame 820 for the spouse. Of course, I crashed it on a test-ride and broke the grip-shift. Need to get that sorted out....

I don't believe the 820 was ever offered with an aluminum frame. It has always been a good quality entry-level bike, though.

It was for one, and nly one year. 99 I think. Grip shifter and only in black. Rigid fork. Nice bike. I would not subject it to the punishment m steel on has gone through and shrugged off though.

Oh my goodness! I have never seen one of those before! Neat.

FWIW, I have broken several bike frames in my life... five or six... all steel. I have ridden many many many miles on mass produced aluminum frames without a single failure. Aluminum has a higher strength - to - weight ratio than steel, so can either be made lighter at the same strength or the same weight but stronger. Any material can (and often are) also be made into a crap frame that fails under normal use.
